I had this album on my list of reccommendations for ages but was initially put off by the very strange name and weird album artwork - well dont be!

I thought it would be some strange avant garde self indulgent material by a crazy acid tripping hippie....

How wrong I could be! I have had this album under a week and i just cant get enough of it - it is almost flawless throughout! its early days yet but i think this is going to make it into my top 5 albums ever. a big call and its companions are albums which i have known and loved for ages, so this may a heat of the moment thing but it is the best thing i have heard in a long long time.

For those of you puzzled by the name and cover - this is actually Indie ... Read More:

Loads of people maintain that Grand Prix is better, and as far as a collection of songs by a fine British band at their peak goes, you can see why - "Sparky's Dream" and "Niel Jung" are among the best songs they ever did...For that matter, "Ain't That Enough" and "I Don't Want Control of You" are another couple of blinders from "Songs From Northern Britain"...But the thing about "Banwagonesque" is its cohesiveness - it sounds like a Proper Album; its twelve songs hold together as a unit, and - dare I say it - the record takes you on a journey, in the way that all the best albums do. From the unforgettable start of "The Concept" ("She wears denim wherever she goes/Says she's gonna buy a record by the Status Quo/Oh yeah...") to the winddown after ... Read More:

I first saw this group on a live music show called Later... With Jools Holland and was impressed enough with their songs and electric performance to want to buy their latest album and have enjoyed listening to it thoroughly ever since. This is a very sonically beautiful - yet quirky - album and reminds me of Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips, but not quite as alternative-sounding as those bands. It holds your interest well and is the work of people who are creating a work of art, not just a hit record. It introduces itself gently, Little Bear being silence softly punctuated with piano, understated strings and a near-operatic vocal, followed by the unpredictable and inventive Made-Up Lovesong #43. The upbeat Trains To Brazil comes next, a riotous jaunt ... Read More:

I knew this girl, she said she loved this album and had seen the shins 13 times. She proved that she had by showing me more than 13 photos at each gig she went to and gave me the album on loan. Personally she can keep it, but The Shins do deserve good people like her as fans. I'm not won over yet. And by the review of their first album i wrote I probably never will.

What a treat. The melodies are heartbreaking. Kick MGMT all over the shop IMHO. And you can hear they have 100 wonderful different directions to go in. I'm completely in love.

Ah, the wonderful 'April'. This reminds me of the RHP album Old Ramon more than the Sun Kil Moon debut - which is to say it is an intense, sprawling album that requires several listens before you can begin to fully appreciate it as a whole. 'Ghosts of the Great Highway' had a lightness of touch and the songs for the most part were more concise - I miss that and have to admit I was expecting Mark to continue in that direction. Saying all that, now that I've lived with 'April' for five months I can barely find fault with it. 'Heron Blue', 'Bilbao' and the heart wrenching (even by Mark's standards so that is saying something!) 'Blue Orchids' are just perfect.

Will Oldham pops in to sing on a few tracks and as you'd expect it is a perfect vocal marriage ... Read More:

With every summer comes my annual urge to melt down with some new laid back tunes to try and imagine I'm in a sun-drenched meadow rather than rain-drenched suburbia. Following some good reviews my aerial tuned in to Antipodean siblings Angus & Julia Stone so it's on with the shades and out with the tartan rug.

Tender melodies abound, brushed drums tumble along lazily, pianos tinkle without intrusion, guitar strings are picked and strummed gently, harmonicas are sucked languidly, and words float by wistfully... it's all very, y'know, niiiiiiice...

Vocals are evenly split: Angus possesses a voice so light and airy it's in danger of floating away in the gentle breeze created by his subtle acoustic strumalongs. "The Beast" and "Just a Boy" are ... Read More:

It's a horrid grey, wet, windy day. The Wolf has every intention of spending it curled up in the cave
with headphones and a decent claret.
Mrs Wolf, having removed the red packaging, is preparing the Sunday roast. Scatty and Grits (the cubs) are thankfully still asleep.

New Pony Club's new album 'Fantastic Playroom' is the perfect soundtrack to this scene of domestic
contentment.

10 tracks displaying bags of confident cool. Sly funky beats. Sunny melodies. Crisp production.
Ms Bulmer's drolly chic vocals and wry lyrics infuse the project with slick urban verve.

These fine energetic performances will have your paws tapping before you know it.

The album is suffused with good humour. The perfect antidote to this ... Read More:
