Def Leppard outsold many band of the 1980s, and this compliation of their best hits proves why. Hits from the early years of recording, like "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages" are within the compilation, and are complimented with the hits from their biggest selling album, "Hysteria", like "Animal", and "Rocket". Included also are some songs from their albums in the mid 1990s, like "When Love And Hate Collide", which scored highly in the UK charts. Of course, their biggest hit, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is the first track, so that will definately get any listener going.
The band itself produces absolutely brilliant music, and this album clarifies the imapct Def Leppard had on the music world. I would also call this a masterpiece. >>More Details |

Its probably fair to say that this is the one album that sits in just about every self respecting rock fans collection, whether they, like me, were knocking about on its original release, or for younger enthusiasts have bought it for its historical value.
This mk2 version of Purple, benefiting from the addition of Ian Gillan's wonderful vocal range (my daughter calls him 'the voice') and Roger Glover's excellent bass and knowledge of musical arrangements, kicked off with an album that not only became the first example of genuine 'hard rock', but unlike some other bands also allowed the depth of their music to shine through. It has been difficult for some time to buy a Kinks compilation that truely represents how good a band they were.
For me, this collection does just that. The real advantage is the second disk which I, contrary to the previous reviewer, think is the main reason for buying this cd above any of the other alternatives. In particular, the tracks David Watts, Dandy, Mr Pleasant, Where Have all the Good Times Gone?, Well Respected Man, Starstruck and Shangri La are all fantastic songs. Shangri La in particular is an overlooked gem. If you are speculating whether to get a Kinks cd or not, then this should really be the place to make your first stop. >>More Details |

Shortly after his first album Young released a rather patchy album that's real claim to fame was the first appearance of Crazy Horse. The voice is more assured than on the opener but that takes away some of the quirkiness that made the opener sound fresher than a rather stodgy offering in which Young seems to be desperately trying to make a niche for himself.

What strikes me is how fresh this album still sounds after over 25 years. Fast, furious and different, I was only 7 when this came out, so can only imagine just how much this must've rocked the Bay Area scene in San Francisco. It does wear it's influences on it's sleeve, but Metallica were still teenagers when they recorded it (imagine any band today managing the same feat?) and you cannot help but be swept away by the enthusiasm behind the record. It pumps out of every one of James Hetfield's riffs, Kirk's solos (yes Megadeth fans, Kirk's, Dave may still be pissed off and claim Hammet stole all his solos, but c'mon, how much can you memorise without sounding imitation - Kirk shows true original talent) and Lars' drums (although he does sound a bitty amateur on this record). ... I had the pleasure of seeing Neil Young live in Kent last weekend. It was great to see he is still on tremendous form after all these years. With a catalogue of about thirty albums it is difficult for newcomers to his work to know where to start their collection, but this compilation covers a lot of his best known music. In fact according to the man himself it was compiled according to sales of the songs, airplay and known download history which gives the track selection credibility.
The collection begins with three of Neil Youngs' key songs- two epics which demonstrate the remarkable craftsmanship behind his output (Down by the River and Cowgirl in the Sand) and the shorter, harder edged 'Cinnamon Girl', an instantly catchy number. If I had to burn my rock CD collection but were aloud to keep a handful, I know that Meatloaf's "Bat Out Of Hell" would be one of albums that i'd save straight away.
This album is just pure genius and one cannon't fail to be surprised when knowing that it's still a bestseller even today, three decades after it was first released. Awesome songs, awesome album, do yourself a favour and buy it! >>More Details |

i am fairly new to opeths music but i own a lot of there albums and thought i would give this new dvd a go to see what they were like live. In a few simple words OHHH MYYY GODDDDD
the roundhouse venue was a great place for them to play and they pulled of a great show delving into there old songs aswell as new. In this deluxe edition there is also an art book with the artwork for this album and some opeth postcards i am very pleased with this package and so will any opeth fan. >>More Details |

The second album from Alter Bridge had a very, very hard task... follow up 'One Day Remains'. How many bands falter and fail to even match their debut offering? These guys don't. Simple as that.
This may be more gritty than ODR but that don't mean they compromise the melody or quality of song. I'll admit it took 2 or 3 plays to appreciate some tracks, but that's because these guys have progressed. Where as 'ODR' is instantly etched into your mind with its catchy choruses and odd meaty riff, this album grabs you by the throat with tracks 'Come To Life' and 'White Knuckles'; comforts you with 'Brand New Start' and 'Before Tomorrow Comes'; melts you with 'Watch Over You' and just simply catches your breath with 'Blackbird'.
