Head First was the last Heep album I bought. Not paid any attention to them since then, but reading reviews here at Amazon, I took the plunge and bought Awake The Sleeper.
Good job I took the advice on offer, because this is a good, solid listen and so nearly a 5 star effort. Good mixture of new and old sounds here, with that great Heep-unique organ accompanying songs throughout. It rocks from start to finish, but a special mention for What Kind of God, which is classic Heep to these ears. This is a damned fine album. I mean, notwithstanding the fact that it's 'Ecky and not Icky Thump, added to the fact that I am slightly bored with the concept of The White Stripes and wasn't exactly excited to hear that Jack & Meg were releasing a new album in 2007, the content of this album - or at least the majority of it - has won me over. There are plenty of songs on this album that would easily fit alongside the best output of 'White Blood Cells' or 'Elephant' and hearing that they had gone back to the hard-edged, bluesy style they excel at was pleasing.

To fully understand Staus Quo you have to first view the era which created them and most importantly the influences that were around them. The Quo are one of the few groups who made the transition from hippie pop to hard rock, they managed to re mould the sound and image to appeal to the 70s in a way that was unique to them. Those ignorant of musical structure seem to believe that the quo only used 3 chords within the structure of most songs however as a musician myself I can vouch that nearly all songs contain both many chordal and modular changes, if you want three chords try Led Zepplin.

Doesn't matter how many 'best ofs' you buy, you still need to hear Queen and Queen II to understand what they were like when some of us were lucky enough to see them perform in university music venues before they became a supergroup. I loved this album then and I love it now. You don't need a video of their amazing stage performances to enjoy it just as music. Why haven't you bought it yet??

I like a variety of music from country through to thrash metal. Enjoy listening to Roy Harper and Bob Dylan so I thought I would give Neil Young a try. Knew nothing about this album before I bought it but the gravely, drawn, folk/rock melodies are simply excellent. I definetly will be purchasing more.

I seem to remember that this was recomended to me because I bought The best of Mountain (old 70's band), which was very good. The very good reviews led me to buy 'Black stone cherry'. But there doesn't seem to be anything impressive about it. It's very modern, sounds just like Nickleback. It certainly doesn't sound like (as all these reviews say) Led Zeppelin.
It really is identical to Nickleback, as far as genre goes. So if you like Nickleback, please buy it off me. >>More Details |

It's one of those things that, when you first think about it, it really doesn't and shouldn't work.
Ever. But after coming across this album's version of "Nothing Else Matters" on Kerrang! TV, I was shocked and also intrigued by what else the album may have in store. Now, most people know Metallica as one of the most influencial and outstanding metal bands of all-time, so when fans heard that they would be combining themselves with the San Francisco Symphony, as you can imagine, assumptions were made before they music was even heard. Im 13 years old and im usually into rockish type music but after hearing one Nouvelle Vague song i fell in love with them. I heard the cover of "Ever fall in love" (first sung by the buzzcocks) on tv and i thought it was great so i decided to buy their newest album. The re sings are amazing and the easy flowing mood is great when your trying to relax. I think that anybody could enjoy this album and the great voice of the Nouvelle Vague singers. The instuments are played fantastically and ever though i paid more on the high street than i could have on amazon i feel that it was well worth my money.
