Wow. Live in the LBC will blow you away. This is possibly the greatest live performance I have seen by a rock band. Beautifully directed with breathtaking camera angles and lighting. And I haven't even got round to the music yet.
Avenged play close to perfect. This would pass in the studio. Synysters solos are incredibly played and Shadows' voice is more powerful than ever. Worth the full money for Live in the LBC. But diamonds in the rough? Filled with B-Sides and covers. There are reasons that these songs did not make the studio albums. Well this is my first review on anything,so it must count for something.
I got this last week and must off played it at least 6 times in the car. It's a joy to drive ! Thank you Classic FM for introducing me to this excellent album,and thank you to the honest reviews from the customers who had the sense to buy it. The tunes are all different,not as some say the same,they grow on you. A tune has been going through my head all afternoon and is as I type! I'm not complaining. Stick to "all the right reasons" and "the long road" this album, "curb" and "the state", should be avoided.

I've know about Ray for some time and couldn't wait to get my hands on the album. His voice is like something from a distant past of actual singer songwriters. He couldn't be more pained in some of his songs if someone had actually stabbed him with the steely shard that is love. This is a MUST have album that transacends any other artist around today. He's little known and let's keep it that way, God forbid that Radio 1 give him a rave review! Simply astounding.

This is the compilation which defines the most criminally overlooked rock band in history. One of the greatest songwriters of the late 20th century, backed up by a troop of amazing guitarists, with Gorham, Robertson and Moore blasting out riffs and, more importantly, some of the greatest guitar solos ever throughout each song on this compilation. This band is a monolith of rock music and thankfully this compilation shows this very well.
my only quibble is that perhaps this shouldve been called 'the very best of' or something like that. In that case southbound and massacre couldve been added too, as well as the rest of the black rose album. Being a rock guitar freak of two decades' standing, it is with embarrassment that I confess to only having heard this record for the first time in my 39th year.
Clearly I went to the wrong school and hung out with the wrong, self conscious types, and stupidly we looked askance at this bogan rock. More fool us. What a remarkable, single minded, self-assured, exuberant record this is, and what a master stroke for a bunch of scot-inflected teenaged aussies to have settled on such a perceptively observed formula and executed on it so flawlessly (and stuck with it for the thirty years since!). I think all metallers will be familiar with this album by now, or if not, at least with the singles that it has spawned. A true metal work of art from Mr Flynn and co. I think there is little question over whether or not this album should be in everyone's collection. The question is, why is this 'Special' Edition, special? And is it worth it?
This re-release has a plethora of extras included on the DVD, with live performances of songs plucked from this album as well as Burn my Eyes and Through the Ashes of Empires. It has the making of's of Halo, Now I Lay Thee Down and Aesthetics of Hate as well as several rare little treats for the die hard fan. I think for any Machine Head fan, this album belongs on your rack. You won't be complete without it ;) >>More Details |

Coming back to this album after many years without hearing it, I'm struck by the complexity of the songs, the wit and emotion of the lyrics and the sheer quality of the musicianship. If anyone tries to tell you that The Who were overrated, play them this album.
Just from the opening song 'The Real Me', you hear the most extraordinary rhythm-section in rock as Moon and Entwistle lock in and syncopate more tightly and intensely than they ever had before, and it's right at the front of the mix! The slicing of Townshend's guitar and Daltrey's raw vocal almost feel like afterthoughts. But everyone is operating at the peak of their ability. Personally, my favourite song is 'Sea and Sand'. Having achieved phenomenal success with their fantasic debut 'The poison' album, it was hard to imagine that Bullet For My Valentine could produce another album of such a high standard. In my opinon, Scream Aim Fire is even better than their previous album and is probably the best Album I've heard this year. And no, this isn't a 'reflex review' I have been listening to this album since it came out in January and I am still in addicted to it. This CD is somewhat similar to their first album, however, you can tell that the subject matter of the songs is more mature now and that the style of music leans more towards a thrash metal influence this time.
Some people have critisised Matt Tucks voice in this album, well OK he did have throat problems, but his voice doesn't really sound as bad as some say. ... Read More: >>More Details |
