Forget the greatest hits - This is the Greatest Hits of Snoop D. Flowing like a waterfall - the beats and lyrics make this one of the greatest debuts of all time - no mistake about it. This is for the Gz.

As a long time Alabama 3 fan and owner of every single album they have produced this is a complete success. I have spent years trying to recruit fellow music lovers to acquire a taste for thier bizarre music without much success. Now, with this album I can.

After the pretty disapointing Kingdom Come album 1 or 2 people questioned whether Jay still had the hunger to make classic albums and whether now it was just about collecting a paycheck, But on this album he came hard and made one of his best albums, if not his best.
Brought out when the film American Gangster dropped, you can definetly see the similar aspects in the two, in this album Jay has done something he hasn't done before and made every song a story like chapters in the film.
The album kicks off with the song Pray which features the voiceover of wife Beyonce, this song explains about him starting to build his empire through street hustling and hoping not to get caught by the police.
I'd only heard the odd track by Warp's new prodigy Flying Lotus from what i presume were his previous releases, and they gave me the impression that this was an artist with an idea on how to take glitch-hop and turn it into his own 'thing', but didn't have the focus to push it through.
How this album proved me wrong. On reading a couple of positive reviews comparing his to prefuse 73, who is a personal favourite, and claiming that he was 'inspiring a new generation of warp-heads', i bought the album and am thoroughly gratefully i did.
The mix of inventive percussion, skipping glitchy beats, synth patterns, and hints of vocals really comes together, and is bound together by some really slick and beautiful production, which elevates ... Read More:

Forget Michael Jackson's later stuff (although Thriller was good), there is some cracking music on here. Discs 1 and 3 are better as Michael is more to the fore. The packaging is a bit flimsy and there is a list of credits behind each disc in the pack, although you need good eyesight to read it! But these are minor quibbles as this is a bargain for so many great tracks

I was in the States when this album came out and it was huge (of course). It's been several years since I listened to it but I have to say it's lost none of its power. Eminem is a warped genius who offends everyone but still manages to endear himselt to everyone at the same time. This was probably the high point of Eminem's career, although some of his later albums are pretty good.

Chipmunk truly is the next big thing coming up out of the UK. I brought League Of My Own and Star In The Hood by Tinchy Stryder recently. Out of both of them I was expecting Star In The Hood to be the better album because of the reviews but that is not true League Of My Own is definately the better out of the both.
On the Album there isnt one bad song each with great lyrical content and beats.
Being new to the scene a lot were expected of cartoon band Gorillaz and they delivered in a way which was unbelievable with this fantastic debut album.
They came into the market having not a lot of success but were able to deliver in the form of their first single `Clint Eastwood' which reached number 4 in the UK charts but probably deserved higher with its cool style and interesting choice of lyrics.
The songs are very different from your average rock band. Because their mode of address is very unusual it struck a cord with a wide range of people. The video for Clint Eastwood showed the band dancing and the drummer being turned into a monster. The funny elements and amazing graphics were great but the whole music concepts are enough to win the ... Read More:

This album is, undeniably, a classic. It is my favourite hip-hop album ever. If you're expecting something that sounds up to date, then you'll be disappointed, but who cares - this album was made in 1987 and sounds EXACTLY like it was made in that year. Rakim's lyrics and flow are second to none in my opinion, and from his opening line of "I ain't no joke, I used to let the mic smoke, now I slam it when it's done and make sure it's broke" he rhymes effortlessly through this entire album. In comparison he makes most other MCs sound like they are struggling (the only other MCs who have achieved considerable mainstream success who are up there with him in terms of effortless flow, in my opinion, are Nas and Gza). Eric B's beats - pretty minimal and tidy, are fully reminiscent of the 80's ... Read More:
