I'm a huge fan of Lucinda and after seeing her in tremendous form at the glasgow barrowlands I went out and got my hands on as much stuff of hers as I could.
I must admit I'm a bit disappointed with this cd - maybe it will grow on me but there seem to be few powerful songs here. It's almost as though it has been thrown together to meet contractual obligations. >>More Details |

So here we go, the second album from Black Stone Cherry is here, and it's been worth the wait.
Southern Rock has never sounded so fresh and contemporary, killer guitar lines, powerful vocals and improved songwriting all contribute here to a band rapidly on the rise. Things don't really get much better than album opener "Blind Man" which believe me is a good thing, because this song is easily one of the best rock songs I've heard this year. The Ballad "Things my father said" again fits in beautifully, its a tearful reflection on one's dad who has passed away. It's a shame a band like this is not very well known, by that I mean the casual music listener, because it really is a quality album. >>More Details |

As a fan of there first album I bought this album when it first came out, listened to it once and said "What is this? It sounds like ELO on crack. RUBBISH!!" And so didn't listen to it for ages. However i found it again the other day so listened to it once again. My reaction this time was "What is this? It sounds like ELO on crack. GREAT!!" I always find the things that take a while to like usually stay with you for longer. Good Album!

I really like the whimsical, slightly retro, ELO-inspired sound these lads create. I loved Goodbye Mr A and I liked Worried About Ray as singles so I was intrigued as to what the rest of the album would sound like.
The album as a whole is good, but not great. There are no other tracks which stand out to me, and it sounds rather generic, like a cross between ELO and The Feeling, which should be good, but this album does not really excite or inspire me, despite it being listenable. >>More Details |

After reading some mediocre reviews of this album I was shocked when I finally heard it and it turned out that I really enjoyed listening to it. It's clearly a step away from the first album, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This album has much more of blues, kind of Nashville Skyline-era Bob Dylan, feel to it, and I personally think that their vocals work much better together here, whereas the first album often felt like one or other of the vocal tracks had simply been 'tagged on'.
All of the tracks on this album seem to gel together very well, and although there aren't really any stand-out 'single' type tracks, I do not think that this is a bad thing at all. This album is a pleasant surprise! Having spent many, many happy years listening to Travis on recording and live I thought that there time had been and gone but seems there is life in the old dogs yet!! Well, they are not that old but you get the drift. Each track is unmistakably Travis, mildly rocking and well written. There are no bad tracks but to be fair none that are outstanding either. My personal faves are "Friends", "Chinese Blues" and "J.Smith" and "Before You Were Young". All in it is Travis in more mature mode as you would expect. It is not "The Man Who" or "Good Feeling" as they were more of the moment if you like but it's a solid, enjoyable album that is not trying to be something it isn't! Worth buying for definite.
