I've been a Amy fan since the start, so maybe i'm a bit biased when I say I prefer her debut album to her current one (which is still very good) but I always find myself listening to this album over her current one. I just think it's a bit more raw and authentic (and therefore maybe won't appeal to mainstream music fans as much?) and it really comes through on the album..defo a more jazzy vibe but I love it and it suits her vocals really well :) I did buy her new album which i also think it's brilliant but this is still my personal preference!

To get the negative comment out of the way first, this compilation merits five stars for musical content, and the only reason I've docked one star is because of the slipshod presentation by EMI Gold. This is the company for which Humph recorded in the 78 era, from whence most if not all of these sides were drawn, yet the tracklist contains no reference to the personnel involved, and only an indication of the year, which is not always accurate. Furthermore, since the relatively brief liner note by Stuart Nicholson comments that "Represented here are three key periods of Lyttelton's distinguished career...early New Orleans Revivalist jazz,....the Johnny Hodges jump style...to the smoothly interlocking mainstream.." it would have been intelligent to ... The album was fantastic! The selection of songs was good. The songs are beautifully sung; I especially enjoyed `Don't Know Why' and `Nightingale'. Norah has a great voice, her music is soothing. NORAH JONES - come away with me, is definitely a good buy!

I really liked Katie's first two albums but delayed buying this one for over 6 months because of all the poor reviews.
And, having finally decided "what the heck,I'll see for myself", I was disappointed when I first played it through - despite having low expectations because of the reviews. Then I played it again and it wasn't quite so bad. And then I played it a lot in the car (& had the other albums there for comparison). And it grew and grew and grew on me. And now it is probably my favourite album of hers. My favourite tracks have varied over time, and I probably still feel that the middle is a little weaker. Certainly, some of the lyrics are rather naff (and even irritating) - but 'twas ever so, and also true of other artists. What ... Read More:

I have owned this CD for more than 3 years and it is still the best Buble has ever done. I saw him sing most of the tracks at Ronnie Scotts and even now my friends accompanying me that night still talk fondly of the occasion. At this bargain price (feb 2008) you cannot afford to be without it. Everyone will ask you who is singing it. It is just wonderful music. All the songs are beautifully arranged and exceptionally well sung. I listen to it again and again without tiring of it.

If you want just one or two of Ella's CDs ... then it should be this "Gold - All her Greatest Hits" and "Ella and Louis Together" (and if you can have the third, please make it "Ella in Berlin [Live] - Mack The Knife")
I have most of her CDs, and I can tell that the person who assembled "Gold - All her Greatest Hits" and "Ella and Louis Together" loves Ella so deeply. The songs he picked and the song order are of the absolute perfection. If you are after compilation CDs of Ella, look no further.
This "Gold - All Her Greatest Hits" is a wonderful CD if you want music that has full of passion, elegance and serenity at the same time. Specially. her 'Manhattan' is the best of all (naturally). I have heard this song by many other singers, but ... Read More:

If this were on vinyl, I would never feel the need to play side 2 again - the last 5 or 6 tracks were obviously a challenge for the band to play and record, and are seriously challenging to listen to. I won't return to them anytime soon.
However, the opening tracks (particularly the extended track 'Premonition') are delightful improvisations that rank among ESTs best work, which would be enjoyed by fans of their previous recordings.

This is among the best CDs I have ever bought! I've been listening to it for 2 months straight, and I'm still not sick of it! Listening to John's voice as he sings these songs makes me laugh, makes me cry, and occasionally makes me cry out his name in pleasure. There's a great selection of songs, and they are just sung so beautifully! Love it!
