I bought this after a reccomendation from another reviewer and I have to say I'm not disappointed. I was already expecting alot from this, I mean Ella Fitzgerald could sing the telephone directory and it'd sound great.
This albun contains the usual Christmas standards, the best being Ellas version of "Have yourself a merry little Christmas". There are some other not as well known tracks too, including the excellant "The secret of Christmas". I must highlight Track 14 "(Medley) We 3 kings of Orient are / O Little town of Bethlehem", which in my opinion is worth the price of the CD alone!!
All in all, an excellant Christmas CD. Ideal for background music for a party or for getting comy on the sofa with your nearest and dearest ... Read More:

Peyroux sounds uncannily like Billie Holiday when she sings - something I'm sure she isn't deliberately setting out to do - but the similarities wander in throughout this lovely album. This is one of those rare recordings where the choice of songs, the voice and the musical arrangements all come together to produce something that sounds under-stated, and it's a joy from beginning to end. Cover versions and original songs go together really well here - it's the sort of CD you can slip on late in the evening for a chill out without the mood being spoiled half-way through an upbeat, raunchy number that spoils the ambience. Seriously good music. Beautifully produced, wonderfully sung.

Fabulous! I've not heard much of her lately but then I played the CD,s. I cannot think of a bad track. I find that I keep repeat playing most of the tracks I find it hard to move on. What is apparent throughout is the great playing from the band. Its great value and one that is being exclusively played in my car.

In a vote for the best Christmas album, it's a toss up for me between this and Phil Spector's.
The voices of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are perfect for Christmas songs. They sound all warm and homely, and you can almost imagine them standing in front of a log fire singing these.
Plus, the banter between Frank, Dean and Sammy is pretty entertaining and makes the songs stand out from the usual Christmas standards.
If you get it, you'll bring it out every year and it will put a smile on your face!

Although I really enjoyed the music,I did find a lot of the tracks very fast to keep up with being a complete beginner. You either have to go ultra slow or extremely fast.I found there were only a few tracks that went at the right speed to comfortably practice as a novice. Will keep it for when I'm an expert! If anyone out ther knows of a CD with a more suitable for beginners, please let me know.

I first heard this record at a friends house. I was completely blown away. I went straight to the first record store and bought it. Since then it became my favorite Jazz album of all times, and has put Keith Jarret, in my opinion, on the top of the world's greatest piano players.
I've been a fan ever since and bought every single live album he has released. They are all amazing, but there's no love like the first one.
No record collection will be complete without it.
