I think this album is a transitional one for Sigur Ros. They've become a band that had a specific sound and they were no doubt aware that they needed to develop their style to avoid stagnation.
With their latest release there are clear signs that the band wanted to make a different kind of a record. The songs are shorter, more acoustic sounding and generally more upbeat. They've tried to rely less on tried and tested ways of working and moved towards spontaneity and improvisation.
At least half of the album sounds a little different for Sigur Ros especially with the single "Gobbledegook" with its tribal drumming, hand claps and chanting. A couple of the tracks almost border on indie pop which would have been very ... Read More:

It is very difficult to approach this album with anything close to objectivity. I have been a big Queen fan for close to twenty years now and, in my opinion, Queen without Freddie just wasn't an option and, after Brian, Roger & John dismissed rumour after rumour of replacing him with a plethora of different front men, I thought that Queen had all but been laid to rest. Then, of course, I heard that they were touring with Paul Rodgers on vocals and, to be honest, I was slightly nonplussed and had no interest in going to see them live. However, when news came of a new studio album with brand new songs - well, now I was interested. I still object to the use of the Queen name - without Freddie and John, it is tantamount to Paul & Ringo getting ... Read More:

I am a platinum member of their website. I have all their albums, dvds and have seen them live 5 times. I WAS almost obsessed - Siempre toned it down a bit but The Promise has all but killed it.
Whoever did the mixing likes the sound of a loud, no - very loud baritone. Carlos all but drowns out the other 3 on nearly every track at the crescendos. David, Seb & Urs all have wonderful voices but you can't hear them!! I am seeing them in February, but I have to say I'm not looking forward to it as much as I was. A very formatted album - sorry guys, but not my cup of tea.

I heard Andrew Johnstone sing on Good Morning Sunday, which is on BBC Radio 2 in the UK, I was so impressed with the singing, I literally logged straight onto the internet and found his CD "One Voice" and immediately purchased it there and then.
I eagerly awaited its arrival and was totally over awed, Andrew's voice is simply outstanding, clear and a sheer joy to listen to, every song on the CD is a pleasure, with such a range of talent coming through.
It is a long time since I heard anybody sing with this high level of ability, clarity and produce such sheer enjoyment.
I would recommend everybody to listen to one track, you will find that you simply listen all the way through the cd..............and feel as though you want ... Read More:

How do Disney do it. They seem to have that magic touch with everything they do and this album is no exception. Although my son is only quite young he still loves this album every time I put it on and I have to admit that so do I.
If you have seen any of the films (which I imagine is most of you) then you have to get this album. Time and time again you will be whisked away back to the wonderful world of Disney films and animation. Okay I am rambling but it is a very good album. 5 stars!!!

Bought the album after being swept away on hearing Louise on the radio one night and fell in love with the beautiful stripped back melancholy of this magnificent cover. As with Richard Hawley, if you're not a big fan of country, some tracks will leave you a little cold, but I promise you will never get bored of settling back into the dramatic, wall of sound bombasity of Danger is a Woman in Love or Born to Cry or lose yourself in the wistful sadness of Louise or Paradise Square.

I'm surprised by the number of reviewers who criticise Katherine because she has not performed in opera and then compare her unfavourably with leading opera singers. Nowhere on this CD (or any of her CDs and DVDs) is she described as an opera singer and her recordings do not claim to be opera. Her recordings do include some arias from opera (though not here) and these are sung very well, but she also includes Welsh songs,(again sadly none on this disc), hyms, songs from musicals and other works. This variety increases that buyers might not like every track. I bought this CD because it contains 'Samcta Maria' set to the music of the Intermezzo from Mascagmi's Cacalleria Rusticana' 'Be Still My Soul' the hymn set to the main theme from Finlandia by Sibelius and 'Somewhere' ...
