After waiting so long for this album it is so great to put in my stereo, push play and feel it blast the cobwebs away. This album has the same trademark style from BSC's first album, with heavy guitars, distinctive vocals and southern style, yet you can see they have grown and deliver something different enough to show development, but not so much to alienate existing fans. The stories in 'Devils Queen' and 'Ghost of Floyd Collins' are just great and the latter track has typical chugging BSC riffs that are the perfect way to end an album. 'The Key' is great, as is 'Blind Man' and 'Peace is Free' is a good balled that sits midway in the album. I'm giving this 5 stars in an attempt to bring the overall rating to a more realistic level (at the time of writing the low level is caused by McStick's particularly unhelpful and blinkered comments).
The tracks on this CD are classics of the jazz genre. The CD is a perfect introduction to the more mellow regions of the jazz world. As it is designed to accompany Classic FM's midnight show then I would say that it hits the spot perfectly in that regard too. If you are a jazz lover then the chances are you will have most of these tracks in your collection already. This "band" dropped from space, or have been trapped somewhere for over 50 years, these is the only logical reasons i can think of that they must have travelled many many miles from their home planet still thinking that everyone on earth still dress like a 1950's sitcom. Then try and set a style when they land with some of he worst music i have ever had the misfortune of listening to.

Every song sounds the same, the instruments are played with the skills of a small child that has only ever learned 3 piano chords and starts to make its own songs using them in random patterns. Who signed a record deal for this rubbish? and with this low skill is it any wonder they're still scouting for girls?

To me this set of eleven songs seems like This Is The Life - a deserving worldwide hit, with six million YouTube views at the time of writing - and ten charming variations. Collectively, they just about pull their weight, and occasionally get close to genius (e.g. 'Poison Prince', in my humble opinion). I very much hope we will see one or two more big ideas in the second album.

As a long time Eva Cassidy fan this album caught me off guard. It is not the smooth flowing series of ballads one would expect from this singer yet in many ways it just could be something better! The album is a direct response to recording companies who originally tried to limit Eva to one type of music. Eva had the ability to master Standards, Country, R&B and Folk and herein lies the proof.
Fans of Eva's cover of "Fields Of Gold" will be quick to internalize the heartbreak in "A Bold Young Farmer", sung with trademark vocals which attack the nervous system faster than any virus known to man. For all its world-conquering success, ABBA Gold didn't really "rehabilitate" ABBA. The casual track sequencing and the choice of only the biggest hits means that a lot of good stuff was missed. The kitsch that dogged the early part of ABBA's career seems to be reinforced.
With The Definitive Collection, however, you get (a) all of the tracks that appear on Gold, (b) plus the additional gems that couldn't be included on Gold, and (c) very elegant packaging. Another great plus with this set is that the tracks are sequenced chronologically. This makes it easier to see how the group progressed from their somewhat "innocent" early days to their remarkably affecting early 80s output. As you might guess from the title, I don't like this one bit. Loved their first two albums, and the live in New York CD, and have been waiting for this third album for years. But it is awful to the point where I can't listen to it. It's like Eric Morecambe said - all the notes are there, but not necessarily in the right order. It gives me a headache every time I turn it on. What were you thinking Beth? Look out my copy on Amazon Marketplace! Erm, it's brilliant, you must buy it...

I'm not really a fan of Madonna - I like the odd song. I fell in love with '4 Minutes' and decided to get the album. It definitely has a dance/techno feel to it, but don't let that put you off. Here's my mini review of the songs:
1. Candy Shop - Starts off good, but gets very repetitive. 2. 4 Minutes - Fantastic, as most of you know. 3. Give It 2 Me - Brilliant. 4. Heartbeat - Very addictive. I liked it. 5. Miles Away - Funky, and fun throughout. 6. She's Not Me - Upbeat, funky, fresh and a great beat. 7. Incredible - It's... incredible. 8. Beat Goes On - Hm... really good.
