Cracking album,better even than the last studio album! Alicias vocals never fail to stir the emotions and even though she doesnt always hit the top spot in this country,that's no reason to give her the wide shoulder.
Superb,quality vocals saturate every track and are full of emotion rather than being just technically perfect. Standout tracks for me include the unbelievably fantastic Superwoman,the punchiness of No One and the old school soul of Where Do We Go From Here. If, like me, you assumed that almost every chart hit from the mid-60's through to the end of the 70's, was original - with barely a cover-version in sight from the Beatles onwards - this excellent compilation will put you right. And given the eclectic nature of the music contained within, it will delight and surprise you too.

Many Motown stars recorded Christmas albums and tracks from those albums have been the source of many Motown Christmas compilations. This is one of a pair of British budget compilations that are as good as any I've seen, with an excellent mix of famous and obscure songs and all the singers you expect to hear. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Jackson five and Stevie Wonder are each represented by three tracks. The Temptations and Diana Ross and the Supremes each get two tracks, though Diana also gets a solo track. The Four Tops also get two, including one featuring guest vocalist Aretha Franklin. That voice is from a place none of us will ever get to. Angels blessed Aretha's vocal chords and went back and blessed them again. This album has so many unbelievable classic songs. I loved all but one track on this CD...it is very rare to find an album with so many great songs. While they all share a similar tie to the techno mixed with hip-hop, the CD still boasts a vast array of different styles: fast, slow, heavy bass, masculine, feminine...I just can't say enough good things about the songs.
I think the people who will enjoy this CD the most are the ones who listened to techno in the 80s, but enjoy today's hip-hop just as much. Before I bought this album, I bought Loose...after hearing both albums, I am convinced Timbaland will go down in history as one of the greatest producers that ever lived. >>More Details |

I once had Bensons'Greatest Hits and listened to the album over and over again..Then I gave it to a man I loved, cause he loved him aswell.

Some real gems here. Granted some of the tracks have been released on other compilation records (namely Gilles Peterson's; indeed Forge used to DJ with Gilles back in the eighties; check out their excellent Dingwalls record) but that's because the songs are excellent. There's a nice mix of funk, jazz, folk and soul here that is sure to make your average party goer stand up, take notice, and applaud your unique and well flavoured musical taste.

You cannot fit all of Marvin's hits on a single CD but this collection has most of the essentials. From a British perspective, one advantage that this has over the double CD (Very best of, which was compiled in America but released in both the UK and USA) is that it includes three UK top ten hits that are not on the double CD, these being Onion song (supposedly with Tammi Terrell, though Tammi was too ill to record the song and a sound-alike substituted), You are everything (with Diana Ross) and Abraham Martin and John (which was an American hit for Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, not Marvin Gaye). This is a great album! There's some fantastic tracks on here! Mostly dance tracks. Produced by the legendary Stuart Price who co-produced Madonna's mega hit "Confessions On A Dancefloor" album! The irony is that this is Seal's lowest selling album! Usually when critics say something is crap, it's actually good, and when something doesn't become too popular and mainstream, it's a secret gem.. For those of us clever enough to stumble across... This is one of those gems... Just buy it! :)
