I discovered Pink Floyd quite late in life, but better late then never they say. This is absolutely my favourite DVD/CD. If I to choose between this one and all the others I have, this would be the one!

First things first. Sgt Pepper is not a concept or themed album. 3 of the 13 songs are vaguely based on the theme of the Beatles "playing" at being an old time band (including a reprise of the title song) and some of the music is continuous between songs. The rest of the songs are unrelated so why is the album so often described as groundbreaking? Listen to it and you will find out. The band and producer George Martin produced a remarkable album that at times is unashamedly experimental.

It's quite simple...
If you want something you can dance to or tap your foot to, then this is for you! If you want something light hearted, upbeat and funky then this is for you! If you like the upbeat songs from Al Green, Ray Charles, James Brown, and even the Blues Brothers, then this is for you! At under a tenner then it is well worth a buy and a listen to. Some of the tracks such as "Stake Your Claim" and "It's Easier" are among the best on the album and a perfect counter to the miserable British weather. If you are anally retentive and break songs down by focusing on particular brass assortments, pitch and tone of a singer's voice or the overall construction of a song, then this is NOT for you! Spotted in a bookshop in Bakewell, Derbyshire. There wasn't a "2" was there? So I bought it. And it's hardly been off in the car since. I agree with other reviewers that not every song here is a gem, but the Lucas numbers do have something that stirs the sentiments. (You who said he wasn't a great songwriter, I present exhibit A - "Bring 'em Down" on Fairport 9). It's true though that it's the Denny tracks that really stir the soul. Her remarkable ability to interpret a song never disappoints on this disc.

If you like Moore, then here is the latest to add to your collection. It's pretty formula stuff - great blues rock - some boogie, some a bit heavier, and of course wonderful long ballards with superb guitar wizardy, delivered only how Moore can.
I won't go through track for track, because if your a fan you will get the drift, this is simply more and more of what Gary does best. A couple of noticeable mentions though. How about the 10 minute long "I Love You More Than You'll ever Know" epic? Sheer class over and over again, and "Mojo Boogie" whioch is foot tapping stonkingly good and subtle tones of Quo! When Q magazine asked Noel gallager what band he was looking out for at T in the park years ago he said, "kings of leon, They are my new favourite band". I imediately bought the album when it came out (alongside the darkness's permission to land....cough) He wasn't wrong. Youth and young manhood was blindingly brilliant.
Lyiricaly the songs are brilliantly smutty yet you really have to be looking for the sexual reference. Thats really what the album is about. Being young and desperate to have it off with ladies. But musicaly "Molly's chamber, wasted time and Holy roller novacaine" are simpy outstanding! Just how many more albums can Radiohead make of such quality? Other bands become very samey, or try to change and fail. Somehow Radiohead manage to change whilst staying the same and keep producing top quality albums. This album just gets better and better with each listen, and in my view a Radiohead classic already.

Ry Cooder is one of the most wonderful guitarists on the planet.Anyone looking to play guitar should listen to him,because when it comes to tone,to texture and beautiful playing he's among the very best there is.The rave over Stevie Ray's,Hendrix,et all as great as they are no question of that RC is a master of his art.This anthology has a wonderful range of varying styles from a whole range of his albums right upto his 2008 release I Flathead,and it's all fabulous stuff,no fillers here at all.listen to the texture in his film scores like Paris Texas,or his take on Johnny Cash's Get Rhythm to the wonderful unreleased track Let's Get Together.You get 34 tracks for your money,all put together by his son Joachim,plus notes by the man himself.This is surely among the best releases of the year,certainly the ... Broken Boy Soldier was good but this is in a different league.It progresses beautifully from the debut. Live , the songs on this are quite wondrous and if you ever see them live the idea that it's just Jack White with a backing band is blown out of the water. One of the best bands around.
And if there weren't enough reasons to adore JW , I doubt very much if I'd have discovered Brendan Benson, The Greenhornes and Blanche had it not been for The Raconteurs . >>More Details |

Back ground music this is not! This album is full of extraordinary sounds and feelings that are powerful and strange. It is impossible to listen to this as background music, but if you enjoy music for the range of emotions and physical experiences it evokes you will love this album. Yes, there is the trademark Albarn waltz underlying "I love Buddha", and the more westernised tracks tend to be underpinned by thumping Gorillaz baselines, but this album is as strange and different as it should be. There is no English, but Mandarin, many of the instruments are strange, and the melodies are rooted in Chinese folk traditions. You will either find this album wierd and inaccessible, or utterly exhilerating. Deserves to be listened to properly and loudly!!
