Subtitled "The ABC-Dunhill/MCA Recordings" this 1998 USA-only compilation is a deceptive little bugger that packs a whole lot more punch than it's naff title and sleeve would suggest. It covers the period 1973 to 1982 and therefore gives us some great-sounding remasters from a criminally under-represented part of Bland's extraordinary career.
Here's the breakdown - US LP catalogue numbers (69:33 minutes):
1. This Time I'm Gone For Good
2. Goin Down Slow
(Tracks 1 and 2 are from "His California Album", 1973 on Dunhill 50163)
3. I Wouldn't Treat A Dog (The Way You Treated Me)
4. Ain't No Love In the Heart Of The City
5. Yolanda
6. I Ain't Gonna Be The First To Cry

Stevie Ray Vaughan's original hits package was far too short at 11 tracks, but this fine compilation goes a long way towards making up for that, and it features excellent songs like "Willie The Wimp", "Ain't Gone 'N' Give Up On Live" and "Life By The Drop".
That still doesn't make it a definitive career retrospective, though, even when coupled with "Greatest Hits" vol. I. At 27 songs, these two albums are trumped by the superb double-disc collection "The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble", which is cheaper than "Greatest Hits" vol. I and II together, yet features a slightly stronger selection of songs and six more tracks.

By far the greatest blues ballad singer, yet criminally underestimated. Sweet, soulful and occasionally deep down and dirty, this is a great introduction to B.B.King's ex-driver. Renowned for writing albums, and not singles and fillers, this compilation flows effortlessly boasting the big (Cry, Cry, Cry, I Pity The Fool...) and the beautiful (Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City). Do yourself a favour, pour a bourbon, sit back and enjoy Beale Street's Best.
