We have loved John Denver's music since we were kids. Hearing them in this CD shows us that he was the BEST. We have so many memories of the different things the songs meant to us, he gave us a lot of happiness. We will always play his music & we know it will live on long after we are gone.

As a fan of Kris Drever's "Black Water", I was a little disappointed to find that this album comes across more as a follow up to Roddy Woomble's solo work. Drever and McCusker are very much in the background, and for me the result is that Woomble's tendencies towards overwrought lyrics and under-developed melodies comes to dominate proceedings.

There are some bright spots, but to me it seems like a missed opportunity for a more balanced collaboration.

Bought this recently and it takes me right back to the early 70's when it was a 'must buy' album. It's been on my 'must get the CD' list for some time and on listening to it for the first time in almost 40 years, I'm still moved and amazed by it. As others have rightly said, it's a classic album, so there is no way I'm going to individually review each track - suffice to say that each is a gem in it's own right. On S and G, it's hard to describe just how unique Art Garfunkels voice is or how poignant Paul Simon's lyrics are, just play it, sing along and let your mind go back to those heady days!

First saw Seth Lakeman on Channel Five's "My Music". Thought he sounded great and not too folky. I bought Freedom Fields CD and thought it was excellent. Found out that he was gigging in Peterborough where I live so went with the wife to see him live. Thought he was excellent. The wife rated him 6 out of 10. Her tastes are West Life and Wet Wet Wet. I usually listen to bands like Coldplay, U2, The Doors, The Killers, The Strokes, Radio Head, REM, Take That etc but I like a song to tell a good story which Seth pulls off in his song writing. The only downside (LIVE)is his guitar playing brother in the band who doesn't look the part. He looked too wooden and is riding on his brother's success. I would recommend you buy this CD and go see Seth live. The crowd ... Read More:

This is a grudging four-star review (rounded up from three-and-a-half). I had come across Lakeman before in his local band Equation. I heard he had come up with a solo album based on local legends and my curiosity was aroused. This review addresses superficially the songs individually before looking at the album as a whole.

"John Lomax" is surprisingly good; making the chorus softer and quieter than the verses is very effective. "The Bold Knight" displays Lakeman's skilful handling of the violin. "Fight for Favour" is too sparse, whilst the title track displays marvellous energy in its violin cross-rhythms. The opening to "Farewell My Love" is a cringing parody of folk music. There is good drumwork in "Blood Upon Copper", but the song ends too ... Read More:

2007's No Promises, made before Carla Bruni became Mrs Sarkozy, was a surprisingly good album considering it's concept. A French-Italian super model setting music to 11 classic poems, including works by the likes of WB Yeats, Emily Dickinson, WH Auden and Dorothy Parker...who wouldn't want to avoid that like the plague?

But here we are, 12 months down the line and Bruni has done it again. Only the one song is in English this time, You Belong To Me, and this proves to be a wise move. The bubbly Je Suis Une Enfant is one highlight, the breathy and sophisticated sound of Le Temps Perdu is another. But in reality there's not really much on the album that you wouldn't want to listen to again and again.

But there is no way that Comme si de rien n'etait ... Read More:

This is a great album and gets better with each listen, much like their first LP "hold on now youngster". The packaging is lovely and the DVD okay. It would have been nice to have included some videos of old or new tracks or include more live performance, however it's a good inclusion.

If you are into LC then this ain't no B side album /EP, whatever. What are you waiting for? It will bring a smile to your face.

I would like to humbly apologise to (a) Davy Graham and (b) my entire group of friends (both of them, well, OK, just Pavel then) for not having bought (and raved about) this recording until this week (after seeing the repeat of the wonderful BBC's "Folk Britannica".
If you are a fan of almost any acoustic guitarist in the past 40 years - Roy Harper, Al Stewart, Paul Simon, Jimmy Page, Richard Thompson, Eric Clapton, [insert name of guitar hero here], then you should, no, MUST have this in your collection.

Stunning technique, amazing invention, exotic combinations - all the jazz, folk, blues and world music radiates from here. What a waste of 40 years, listening to copies (however excellent) of this master.

Now... what else has Amazon got to offer? ... Read More:
