This album is different to any of their others, as it seems to be a weird selection of solo performances by Shane and Mark (not complaining on the Mark point). Some of the tracks do mix the vocals, but in large part the the Cutie Blondes (their official names) are basically missing. Even when there are backing vocals by them, you can rarely even recognise their voices.
Having Mark singing, using more of his amazing potential (particularly on track 2) is fantastic to hear. His voice is effortless and has a sense of soul that I don't think Shane's does, however great. So again, not complaining here. It is odd though that the album is solo/duo/band/hint of 'boyband'. As a whole, it feels as though two seperate artists collaborated (and maybe brought ... Read More:

There is no doubt that you know just what you will get from an Enya album, multi layered vocals, soothing piano and haunting melodies. In that sense, you could say that she is predicatble but when this type of music is done so well it is hard to fault.'Shepherd Moons' is one of Enya's finest pieces of work with many fine tracks.
'Caribbean Blue','Book Of Days' and 'How Can I Keep From Singing?' are all classic Enya.If you just want to wind down after a tough day you could do a lot worse than to put on this CD and chill out.A class act.

Amazed at the review of this album, which is mainstream and forgettable. A real disappointment given the high praise Cara Dillon has received. Go out and buy Rachel Unthank!

Please, Please buy this. This is a masterwork of genius. Never have I heard someone with such a deep understanding of what music should be. Jorge is a adpetly at home in so many styles. "America do Norte" and "Trabalhador" are both nods to the influence of North American percussion, both styles fitted effortless into the Jorge plan - sprightly, melodic - this man can make a violin sound funky. "Burguesinha" is a beautiful pop-samba - Jorge's understanding of the transecendent chanted chorus in evidence. This track will have you humming along, tapping your toes. My favourite track is the show-stoppingly brilliant "Mina do Condominio" - the way the lyrics just patter around the passionate chorus with that beautiful mandolin - one of the great tracks you're likely to hear. ... Years ago, I bought 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere' on the recommendation of a trusted friend, who told me it was considered an idiosyncratic masterpiece in the vein of 'Astral Weeks,' though musically miles apart. Whereas I liked the album, I was never the biggest fan of extended musical jams, which 'Cowgirl In The Sand' and 'Down By The River' sounded like to me. In short, I couldn't love it, and I already knew 'Harvest,' 'After The Goldrush' and Youngs work with Buffalo Springfield particularly well. What I was looking for was that rare nugget that makes you fall in love with music all over again. Then, recently, I was drawn in by the effusive reviews of the reissued 'John, The Wolfking Of L.A.' by John Phillips, and it is a fairly consistent and good portrait of the ... Read More:

I have been listening to the music of Paul Simon since i can remember.
What you get here is not a rebel, a follower of trends, a commercial artist or a controversial one.
What we get with Paul simon is some of the most beautiful songs ever in the English Language, performed with the respect they deserve.
As one part of the duo Simon and Garfunkel, Paul Simon wrote : The Boxer, sounds of silence, Bridge over Troubled water and Mrs Robinson to name a few.
What strikes me as a surprise in this collection is how several of the songs here are of the same quality if not superior to the above.
ie American Tune, Slip Slidin away, Still crazy after all these years, Kodachrome, Gone at Last, The Boy in the Bubble.
Having come to the brilliant Seth Lakeman through his Mercury nominated 'Kitty Jay' and the follow up 'Freedom Fields' and having seen an electrifying live performance at Liverpool's Academy. I had procrastinated about getting Seth's first album which appears to have been lost from critical evaluation on the Amazon pages. I presumed that perhaps a younger Seth had been a 'finger in yer ear' Martin Carthy traditionalist and The Punch Bowl was full of earnest but dull renditions of sea shanties and songs about maiden's losing their....thingymagig.
In truth, The Punch Bowl is a pure Seth Lakeman album full of catchy riffs, wailing fiddles and those emotive vocals. With Cara Dillon providing sweet backing vocals and the rest of the Lakeman clan rustling up the instrumental backing, the ... Read More:
