I totally agree with the reviewer that complained about the difficulty to get into the box. I too was foxed until I stopped trying to open it instinctively and had a concentrated thoughtful good look at the box. Whoever came up with the design... please, let others do the job. Packaging isn't meant to be a puzzle to be solved.
As for the software itself... hmmm... I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive after reading the divided opinions here and I guess my three stars indicate that I, too, am divided about it. Maybe once I have used it for a year or so, I might get the hang of it but as of now, I am still missing the old version and trying to work out the new. Have some people been using a different version of this software from me? (or trying to run it on OS9 maybe?)
It's not perfect (lack of VBA support, lack of advanced features in Excel, slow to start up, not fully compatible with spaces), but I think it's quite good and definitely worthy of four stars (I'm running the latest update 12.1.4 at the time of writing). iWork '08 is not a good idea, as although Apple say it's compatible with the word and excel formats, it doesn't display the advanced formatting in these files properly. The only serious competition Office 2008 has is OpenOffice 3.0 (which now runs natively on the mac). >>More Details |

Having a house full of PC's of varying ages and a mac. I am loathed to buy
more licenses as I already have older pc and a mac version of office. Get "Open Office - 3" virtually free and run on any machine and save files as microsft versions .doc .ppt etc and vice versa. I am thinking of stripping vista off my childs new lap top and going over to a linux version and avoid the other rip off that is microsoft security software >>More Details |

Have just loaded MS Office 2007 pack into my PC (XP system) and am very impressed with the new Word 2007 & Excel 2007 layouts. Unfortunately, I also tried to load the software into my wife's laptop (Vista operating system) but Vista doesn't like it - everytime she clicks on the Word 2007 icon the software starts installing itself all over again. Vista is really pretty awful - where's that nice button on Control Panel which says 'Install New Programs' - seems to have disappeared in Vista.

I do a lot of private research in many subject areas and this is the best product I have found for the price that allows you to collate information from many electronic sources.
In essence OneNote allows you to create a virtual filing cabinet with different draws into which you can place folders that have notes and sub-notes. The notes and sub-notes can contain virtually any data format including images, drawings, voice or text. During installation plug-ins are added to your Office products and Explorer enabling information to be imported to OneNote very easily and this makes research on the Web very efficient. I find MS Office 2003 S&T edition meets most of my needs - but I miss Access, even though I only used it occasionally. Contrary to other people's experience, I can spell-check other languages - eg set Microsoft Office Language Settings to enable French, and then in Word under Tools/Language/Set Language tick "detect language automatically". This should find French text and spell-check it fine, even in mixed English/French documents.

Unlike previous "upgrades" to Excel, this is a leap into a very different user interface. Previous Excel experts may find themselves spending whole minutes trying to locate features they previously knew by shortcut, and aggrevated by the ribbon bar which flicks about unexpectedly when your finger accidentally slips onto your scroll wheel, but all in all it's worth it.
Previously Excel was limited to a mere 256 columns, and many options such as Conditional Formatting etc. were limited to 3 rules. This is something a lot of people want to know when trying to decide on an encyclopedia to buy as i have been also. There are lots of conflicting reviews here on amazon, one's got more articles the other more multimedia content blah blah blah.
Basicaly I've just done a web search on the subject and found a review of both 2007 products from PC Advisor magazine. Basicaly the results were Encarta wins hands down. I won't list every single point on which one is better than the other because at the end of the day if you want to read the review you can easily find it with google and I'm trying to keep this brief.
