You have to live with an encyclopaedia for a year or two to really get a feel for it's worth, and as Britannica's got 74,000+ articles even then you just scratch the surface. Encyclopaedias were always traditionally bought when older kids were in the household, and kids are frequently still the main users. - provided it gives them what they want, and quickly. Encarta 2009 hasn't got anything like the depth in articles that Encyclopaedia Britannica Ultimate reference suite 2009 has, but Encarta still hits the spot for school-kids with better use of interactive content and more focus on things they might actually want to read about. Plus Britannica still throws up strange search results more often than Encarta, which can be rather off-putting ... Read More:

I bought this for my 6 year old daughter to help improve her English and Math skills, and I can't praise this programme enough!
My daughter actually looks forward to playing the games and frequently comes up to me saying "Mummy, can I play Jump Ahead Year 2 now please?" with much enthusiasm. I thought it might be just a fad - like with all toys! But she really does enjoy it. I think its because the math games are challenging and she enjoys the excitement of the "theme" of the game, like jumping over crocodiles to get across a river.
I can tell you one thing, I wish I had something like this when I was little learning maths because it would have made the subject less scary. This actually makes maths look fun and because ... Read More:

We bought this for our 5 year old daughter who absolutely loves it. There is a lot to do, easy to follow instructions, fun learning, great games and much more. In fact she is now 6 and still plays and we are about to buy her the Year 2 CD. Highly recommended

My laptop graphics drivers were corrupted once I installed this software. I recommend that you DO NOT install this software. I have Vista and the software support site recommends installation of Vista Service Pack 1. The app only ran for about 10 seconds and then the screen went black. Once I logged in safe mode and completed a system restore my laptop is now working. I'm sending this software back.

Mummy - This is Rubbish! This is what my daughter said to me when we put this on! I am so glad it was a present and I didn't waste any money on this. My daughter is 2 yrs and this was far too babyish for her even though it is meant for 1.5 - 3 yrs. It is very limited and we finished it in under an hour. The animations are repeated on the different screens, so if you see the Elephant on one screen, he sings the same song in the abc screen, the numbers screen, etc and it is really boring. The font used for the ABC learning is a 'comic' shaped font, so it would be hard for a child to recognise the actual shape of a letter. And a lot of the animations didn't make sense anyway. All this after I had to download the patch from the makers website before we ... Read More:

A great disk, both my kids loved it, I bought this to try and get my little boy to advance with his reading and he loves it. Takes a while to figure out how to get into the different rooms, but both my 4 year old and 6 yr old can work the computer by themselves using this software, it really is easy. A great interactive program.

This is perfect as it teaches a bit of French but is also very entertaining.
My 3 year old uses level 1 as it lets them choose what to click and then tells them the French for it. My 5 year old is on level 2 and loves the challenge as on this level they are directed (in French) what to click.
Very clearly spoken but the instructions for a couple of the games can be a bit vague.
