rave reviews, looks good and seems to have the speed issue sorted, or so you think, fooled again! All seemed well then noticed a sudden slow down, oh dear oh dear, a scan with the lowly rated windows live onecare revealed 4 virusus plus other issues, alittle surprised to say the least, now trying Bit defender, pah web pages load quicker, don#t waste your time and don't trust the hype, try Kaspersky. I totally agree with the reviewer that complained about the difficulty to get into the box. I too was foxed until I stopped trying to open it instinctively and had a concentrated thoughtful good look at the box. Whoever came up with the design... please, let others do the job. Packaging isn't meant to be a puzzle to be solved.
As for the software itself... hmmm... I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive after reading the divided opinions here and I guess my three stars indicate that I, too, am divided about it. Maybe once I have used it for a year or so, I might get the hang of it but as of now, I am still missing the old version and trying to work out the new. Presently on PcPro's `A-List', Adobe Elements is a cut down version of Adobe's £500+ Photoshop/Photoshop Extended CS4, and costs considerably less while still having a lot of useful photo editing capabilities. Photoshop CS4 has a steep learning curve, but Photoshop elements is far more home-user friendly. A lot of the program is geared towards image storage and management of the photos on your hard drive, helping with emailing, web output and scrapbooks of your images. The program can auto-downloads your images from the camera to folders, set up using the date, and can even process the images, say automatically removing red-eye, while it does it. I'm not the World's best driver - quite the opposite in fact so I was glad when this product popped through my letter box as I'd hoped for a much needed refresher in the finer points of keeping myself alive on the roads.
I wasn't disappointed. This item is especially useful for the theory and hazard perception parts of the test - the point and click where the hazard is section is particularly useful I found - and works much better than the actual test software itself at the testing centre! The question banks for the theory test are thorough and highly realistic too - and very varied. With most of the applications produced by Adobe requiring a small mortgage to purchase, it makes a change to see a program that represents good value for money. For less cost than many stand alone raw file converters you have a program that can import raw files using the same plugin that is produced for their full Photoshop application. On top of that you are able to do some surprisingly complicated image manipulation, including full lens distortion correction and white balance control. For the more graphic inspired amongst us it carries a wide range of adobe effects and brushes. For the less technically minded you can switch to quick or guided mode. Have some people been using a different version of this software from me? (or trying to run it on OS9 maybe?)
It's not perfect (lack of VBA support, lack of advanced features in Excel, slow to start up, not fully compatible with spaces), but I think it's quite good and definitely worthy of four stars (I'm running the latest update 12.1.4 at the time of writing). iWork '08 is not a good idea, as although Apple say it's compatible with the word and excel formats, it doesn't display the advanced formatting in these files properly. The only serious competition Office 2008 has is OpenOffice 3.0 (which now runs natively on the mac). >>More Details |

Having used Norton with no problems for the first 3 years with this computer, I was quite happy to stay with Norton and installed Norton Internet Security 2009 1-3 users upgrade. Easy to install, and also installed on the laptop which my daughter uses.
Unfortunately after 1 month it stopped updating on both computers, leaving them (and me) at risk. Norton were very helpful and remotely reinstalled the product. But the same thing happened again. Having spent a great deal of time trying to solve this problem I decided to cut my losses and try another product - with no problems. Having a house full of PC's of varying ages and a mac. I am loathed to buy
more licenses as I already have older pc and a mac version of office. Get "Open Office - 3" virtually free and run on any machine and save files as microsft versions .doc .ppt etc and vice versa. I am thinking of stripping vista off my childs new lap top and going over to a linux version and avoid the other rip off that is microsoft security software >>More Details |

Read all reviews and then purchased. Norton 360 loaded quickly, no hiccups, no nonsense. Am very impressed at how it works away quietly in the background with no reduction in speed of my laptop, in fact, in a few areas I believe it has quickened up. When it does prompt me, I am impressed at the level of sensibility of the questions. Very glad I purchased it.
I would add though, that I am using a laptop that is only 6 months old, and with 4gig memory that I upgunned myself, so I can understand some others gripes. Lastly, somebody in Symantec may be listening: my disc arrived in a very small packet, no cardboard waste at all! >>More Details |
