The whole reference number business is intolerable. The number provided with the disk will not activate installation. You follow the instructions on the flyer that comes with the product by logging on to the Acronis site and typing in the first two blocks of the 64 digit serial number as instructed by the flyer. No matter how many times you try it will not be recognised. You then decide to type in the whole number. The number is recognised, and you are told that the product is now registered. So what? the number still won't activate the installation. You contact tech support and wait for a response. You may think, as I do, that if the number provided does not activate the installation, then the product should be returned. I returned it. Why ... Read More:

This arrived 3 days earlier than stated. I read the manual over lunch. Installed it after lunch, 10 mins, loaded updates 2 mins, made my first backup of three NTFS partitions in 25 mins. Created recovery disc and Lights out restore partition 15 mins. Tried a restore of C drive and guess what; it worked. No,I am not a computer nerd (well I don't think so) I am an over 70 retired legal clerk.
My advice; read the manual(RTFM). Thank you Symantec for a product that just works without fuss.

Well like so many, I bought it when it was on offer...
Installed and made my fist whole system back up. Lets face it, you never know if its done it right until you have to use it...fortunately it had as I reformatted my harddrive and reinstalled as hoped...
thats the good
the bad is since then I have not been able to create another wholesystem backup - well not one that I feel confident of...
and after 3 or 4 emails to their support - each time it has taken AT LEAST 1 week to reply and then displays a complete lack of understanding of the question
if you need to be sure that you have a good backup, shop elsewhere

A full page of all kinds of stuff (rubbish) but nowhere says what this software does. Amazons pages are getting over full of other things and forgetting about the item you are actually looking at. It would be nice to focus on the item you are looking at- put it at the top clear from the rubbish. Oh= and put a description of it too.

I tried this with a little trepidation both as I was moving up to Vista and had heard scary comments about it and also some of the comments on here which were less than optimistic. I was not helped because initially i only used on monitor and one internet connection!
Still, that all being said, this product worked exactly and I mean exactly as it said on the box, with only a little bitty leaflet to tell you what to do. I shifted 90GB (yes, really, bearing in mind that it compacts the files by around 50% as it loads it (quirkily!) into the 'removal van', unpacking at the arrival end) by setting it going overnight. When I came down in the morning it was done, with my new PC showing the desktop picture that previously was on the old PC.

Having bought this and used it for over 100 days to backup my computer, I then had a problem and had to move from the save function to the restore function.
Hours of phone calls to support diagnosing v2isr.exe errors, downloading new versions of the disk, brought no relief.
I was then told by symantec, that I required a cd-rom burner and software to move onwards...something you'll note was not on the list of their system requirements, so add £100 to the cost of the software to make it work.
After shelling out for a burner, the v2isr.exe error persists, and Symantec have suggestion I purchase (yes you read that right) purchase ghost 14, as that works....
The product is an absolute joke. And the Technical Support / Customer Service at Symantec is even worse.
1.) Upon Starting the PC I am greeted with multiple pop-ups - Virus Definitions Out of Date and Virus Scan Out of Date etc etc. On entering the software everything is ok.....
2.) The system seems to hang on the "one button check up" during the Norton Cleanup scan and then after 30 minutes will find files to clean up. Example found 763 then cleaned. Immediately ran again and found 1091, then cleaned (again). Immediately ran again and found 2111.
3.) Have used Symantec Chat on 4 occasions and each time they tell me that it is sorted. When I start the computer again, the problems start again.
