I was highly surprised to discover that you cannot upgrade to CS4 from Macromedia Studio 8 nor from Studio MX. Macromedia Studio-type of Dreamweaver is not regarded as Dreamweaver, at least not in the mind of Adobe. So I had to return the upgrade version.
Googling this problem reveals that this peculiarity from Adobe has caused considerable anger among users.

For several years I just shot jpeg and used Photoshop Elements 4 to manage my library of photos and for editing. I was very pleased with Elements for this purpose. Then I started to shoot raw and started to learn about colour management. I also bought Silkypix to read the raw files from my Canon and Olympus cameras. I had outgrown Elements.
By accident I saw Lightroom on Amazon and tried out the 30 day offer. It was quite different from Elements but it read all my raw files including the Olympus E-410 ORF ones which are a challenge for most packages. That decided me, I bought Lightroom and Martin Evening's book (which is absolutely necessary but a little out of date; v1.1 only).
I decided that pagemaker to pdf was getting too hard under classic so had to move to a new product. I tried Indesign 1.5 some years back and it was so devoid of features I gave up. Indesign CS3 (v5) is much better and has all the features I need for long documents (>100 pages). Its integration into pdf is better than pagemaker and although I have not tried exporting complex objects I had no trouble producing acrobat v4 files. Took a long time to figure out how to import all the graphics from a pagemaker file successfully, the manual is a bit weak on this, it assumes it all works straight away.
The upgrade version I bought from Adobe accepted pagemaker as a valid upgrade path, interestingly it would not accept indesign 1.5, so I wasted my money ... Read More:

Acrobat is expensive but worth the money in my opinion. It's good when a vendor concentrates on its core strengths, despite the attractions of diversification. Acrobat is a mature product, simple to use, reliable and efficient. That's good enough for me!

This product is great for existing users of flash. It adds a whole host of new features and extends the appeal of the program into new markets such as 3D. However, I fear that for people who have never used the program, this release could have made the already steep learning curve even bigger. Flash is so different to any other products available that it takes around 6-12 months minimum usage to become acquainted with it, and that was before they added all these new features! I'd recommend that if you're a new user of flash, to check out versions 5 or CS3 which may be easier to pick up, I'd also look into purchasing some video training to speed up the learning process.
