Wish I'd read the reviews before ordering this product. I agree with everyone else and can't add much to comments that have already been made (doesn't calculate VAT etc). Stay away from this version of Quickbooks.

Having used quickbooks for years - 2004 pro/2006 regular, I cannot believe how appalling this is. You cannot do accrual, the reconcile is under 'for your accountant' and you cannot enter supplier bills!!!! What??????!!!!!
Simple Start? Too right it's simple. A simple con so you have to upgrade to quickbooks pro. It will be going back and we will be changing to sage!
Take heed Intuit!

We also had to purchase to get continued payroll updates and had endless upgrade problems which were never satisfactorily resolved. I have recently had to deal with a monthly paid employee on SMP and QB wrongly calculated the period of SMP due. I have spent hours on the helpline trying to get a resolution and it still isn't solved. This is quite a fundamental error and I have no confidence that the payroll side of the programme is operating correctly.
As a bookkeeper I have used QB for several years now and whilst I have some reservations, I find it quite intuitive for smaller companies. However I think this latest version has been very poorly implemented and tested, and the ommission of the multicurrency feature is shortsighted in the extreme.

We have used Quickbooks since 2002 and find it a very simple and easy system to use. We have recently upgraded from the 2005 Standard version to Premier 2008 and it was extremely easy. Quickbooks do advise that your historical VAT records will not run in Premier 2008. Our advice is to upgrade the day after your VAT period end and you MUST leave your old software on your computer, just in case you or the VAT Office want to review your records.
Once you have installed your 2008 Software you have 30 days support FOC. We suggest that you get support to reset your VAT Control to a zero balance for the start of the new VAT quarter. Do not input any Bills before doing this.
I have used Quicken in various versions for the past ten years, right from Windows 95. I have never had any serious problems with it apart from downloading from bank accounts. With Vista it took a while to understand how to run it in a compatibility mode that suited it, but it is still going strong. I am not sure why people had trouble with stocks and shares. I ran many stocks with it through the years I was investing and it downloaded latest prices. My only big beef is that it is no longer supported so I cannot have upgrades.
I am self employed so the program is a vital tool in my work.

I picked up the wrong box at the local outlet store (Evaluation version rather than Full, and nothing on the box to explicitly tell you this!) Am glad I did now, I have saved wasting the total 60 quid.
I have used Quicken for 11 years now, and I can safely say this is the worst release ever! Graph functionality has been removed, the interface is counter-intuitive and clumsy, and "online banking interface" means diddly-squat!

Overall a great piece of accounting software with many advantages to the small business which I won't list here for there are too many. Easy to learn and use though you may need a little help from your accountant with the setting up. Intuit offer several backup packages giving you the option to contact them about accounting related problems but after spending an additional £140 or so for the all inclusive package I have found that it takes at least 10 minutes to get through to an advisor which is somewhat disapointing when it is supposed to be a premier help line!! The software's own help/info pages are generally more than adequate and I wouldn't bother with the training guide (purchased separately) I have found nothing in this guide worth the price I paid for it ...
