The many mixed reviews of this product may have confused potential buyers, so what I want to try and do with this review is put them in perspective so that you will have the necessary facts to buy (or not buy) with total confidence.
First of all, many of the negative reviews have come from people who either didn't know that they needed an Intel-based Mac or who had a very slow older system. You need an Intel Mac running at 2.0Ghz or above with 2Gb of RAM. Without this, the program will struggle.

This review is being written using MacSpeech Dictate. It has had about 10 minutes of training so far, and is already remarkably accurate. I would definitely agree with the other reviewer, in saying that I can't recommend this product highly enough. I have never used voice recognition software before, but definitely think I'll be making plenty of use of this product, particularly as I have a lot of reports and such like to write. Definitely a productivity booster, and well worth the investment! I don't know what this would be like with the standard headset, but the talk pro headset works incredibly well and efficiently. Having spent the time and effort training the programme- it still cannot do the simplest of dictation. It produces at best nonsense at worst jibberish.
I know Mac software is more expensive but this software is a joke. It is not worth the money it is found to be wanting in many areas. Especially if you use Microsoft Office for Mac!
Also support from MacSpeech is less than helpful and very slow to act.
