Software like this is essential nowadays. Every time you use your computer you leave behind a signposted trail of what you did, when you did it and what you looked at. Files you delete can still reside on your hard drive years later. All this personal data can be viewed, even by web sites you visit - your privacy and safety are at risk from criminal exploitation.
I have used security software for at least 15 years, both previous versions of Window Washer and offerings from several others. I can report that Window Washer is a reliable and easy to use piece of software that you can happily install and forget - it can be set up to work automatically. It is better value than most, has a proven track record, is from a well known software ... Read More:

Do not buy Spy Sweeper 2008. It does not find and remove a lot of the dangerous spyware out there. The writers of the spyware and trojans are years ahead of this useless lot. Use Spybot, its free and a lot more effective.

This is a must for every computer - I believe its spyware protection is second to none. It has protected my computer for the last 3-4 years and takes <20 mins to do a full scan (recommended at least once per week). Better still it is compatible with McAfee internet security software. AOL customers receive AOL Spyware Protection software free, but this is not as good and can interfere during start-up, as well as being annoying in that it interrupts for updates rather than running this in the background. Webroot SpySweeper is worth paying for, believe me. Thankyou Amazon for good price deals on both Webroot and McAfee products - much cheaper than going directly to the supplier.

I payed about £50 for this software and seriously don't think it's even worth half that. This software may help protect your PC against spyware, trojans etc but, I have found that it made my PC run 2-3 times slower than before.
8.5 minutes it took for my desktop to load up completely and I only bought My computer from PC World 9 months ago so it's not like my pc is that old. It was bad enough before when I had to wait 5 minutes for Norton Software to load up just so that I could use the internet to send an e-mail. overall this product has failed to impress me. I thought the Windows Washer software would help speed up my computer by deleting all unnecessary files and freeing up hard drive space but has infact done the complete Opposite.
My advice ... Read More:

I ran a test on this after downloading a trial version and for some reason it doesn't hide 2 ports (the DNS and CORBA ports). The ports are closed, but not stealthed. This means that these 2 ports are visible while you're using the Internet and can potentially be hacked into. The purpose of a firewall is to completely hide the computer (all it's ports) from view so it will remain invisible while you are using the Internet.
You're better off using the built-in Windows XP firewall (keeping it up to date with the Automatic Updates). The XP firewall currently hides all ports from outside view.

The sweep feature finds and destroys spyware very effectively. The various "shields", on the other hand, gobble up cpu and memory, and Spy Sweeper does not play well with Norton Internet Security. I think any machine with less than 500 mb of RAM is going to choke on this program. I have 512 mb and I had to turn off SpySweeper's keylogger shield to make my PC usable at all.
Bottom line: the sweep works well, and you can set it to run late at night when you don't care that the machine is too busy to pay attention to you. The screens may work OK, but they might slow your PC down quite a lot if you don't have a ton of RAM and a fast machine. Turning them off one by one eventually solves the problem, but like Captain Kirk, you might not feel secure with your ... Read More:
