The last time I consulted Britannica was almost a decade and a half ago, of course that was a printed version. As such I was extremely excited and curious about what the evolution of the encyclopaedia would be in the digital format. I was tired of Wikipedia for supposedly not offering cross-referenced content that I could swear by and thought that it was a mature move to invest money on this reference software.
Now that I have it installed in my computer and started to do my usual researches I confess that I am scandalised about how shallow and boring Britannica still continues to be. The childrens britannica CD-rom successfully uses images, video and sound clips and maps to bring educational topics to life for your children. I found the resource to be well written and constructed with 'young learning' in mind. I have particularly found the homework helpdesk useful for the ever increasing homework demands that have been placed upon me! The Childrens CD-Rom is designed for children of a primary school age but it might be worth noting that the Ultimate reference DVD contains 3 encyclopedias (primary, secondary & Adult) as I recently discovered!

Unlike previous "upgrades" to Excel, this is a leap into a very different user interface. Previous Excel experts may find themselves spending whole minutes trying to locate features they previously knew by shortcut, and aggrevated by the ribbon bar which flicks about unexpectedly when your finger accidentally slips onto your scroll wheel, but all in all it's worth it.
Previously Excel was limited to a mere 256 columns, and many options such as Conditional Formatting etc. were limited to 3 rules. These have all been vastly expanded, turning it into an even more powerful piece of software. I can't even do a proper review because this does not work properly on Windows vista. None of the help section or any of the tutorials on vocabulary are compatible so you can't use the system. The company (pc software) I bought it from through Amazon gave me a refund though, but I still wasted the P+P so thought I had to write a review because this isn't mentioned in the item description.
And from what I can see it's for those who already know some French cause it throws you in at the deep end. >>More Details |

This is a perfect example of DSA using its status to sell a product that does not have the content to justify the price. Almost all of this supposedly interactive CD is merely the presenter explaining examples of hazards (information you will probably have read about in various other publications anyway) and showing you what to expect when you get to the test centre (which you will see on the free CD you are sent when you book your theory test). The 'interactive' part consists of only 10 hazard clips - which, bearing in mind that you can only practise with these once for them to be effective, is a measly amount.
