Just to let anyone know who is interested, this CD-Rom does work on Mac. I have a recent Mac, and when I put the disk in, my OS 9 system kicks in. It works without any problems.
As far as the game itself, I was very pleased and have not found any difficulty in understanding how it works, but I suppose instructions would no be a bad idea! We are using this CD to help my son, who has never been to school in England, and I find that this is a very effective way to work on his grammer, etc. He is not a big reader, like his brother, so this game has been a very helpful tool. This game is really good if you want your child to learn how to play chess. Learn about how the pieces move, setting up the board, checkmate and stalemate, Back Rank and Smothered Mate, Up the stairs mate, Cornering the King, Opposition, Castling and how much a piece is worth. I rated it 4 stars because you have to go around a long path in order to get anywhere and also the endless stories are also a bit annoying. So, if you want your child to learn how to play chess you cant get better than this.

After initial enthusiasm, my daughter found the game play and the way you move around the 4 different arenas quite uninteresting. The maths items themselves were as you would expect, and there are a lot of different items with various degrees of difficulty, but the all center around just 3 basic arenas. Also, there are no short cut's to the items, so you have to repeatedly listen to the same preamble every time.

I learned to touch type on Mavis Beacon. Sadly the CD-ROM from Windows 95 is not compatible with Windows XP, so when I upgraded my computer I had to buy it again. Guess what-I've now got a laptop with windows Vista-and it's not compatible either!I will not buy it again! The program really works-I was up to 30wpm in a couple of weeks, and it's easy to do a quick refresher at the PC when you have a few minutes. Watch out though-if you are planning to change systems/computers, the CD will become useless!

this is an excellent buy for children,not only is it fun but the step by step instructions on screen make it easy for the child to progress stage by stage without any assistance,the progress chart helps them to understand where they have difficulty and extra tuition is needed also they are having fun which I feel is a good way to learn

This is great! I struggle looking through the origianal microscopes but as I can see this on my computer screen its great. I also love the way you can take and save photos from it. This means I can look at my obsevations again and again. It also means that I can use the pictures for my homework. I'd say this product is sutable for ages 6 to adult.
