This is very good as a start to help learn pronouciations which are quite tricky. It has a lot of words and a few phrases but you don't come away with any idea how to construct a sentence.
Make no bones about this - Logic Express 8 is *not* for someone to get to grips with over a cup of tea and a biscuit. This is the (slightly) cut-down brother of the excellent Logic Studio software (indeed it is a superset of Logic Express plus other tools). As a result you end up with an excellent professional tool at a *very* cheap price.
This product is highly recommended for those people who are *serious* about making music, as opposed to the people who like to play about with GarageBand. It has a steep learning curve but you will be glad you persevered.
You need as powerful a machine as you can possibly get for this software, however. My iMac G5 with 2GB RAM just about does OK, but one of the more powerful Intel ... Read More:

I got this as a Christmas gift this year after going on and on about how Garageband felt restricting and how I wished for something new to make music.
When I got this I was excited as anyone in position would be, but that didn't last long.
It appears that you must also buy Parallel or Bootcamp to use this on a Mac. That's not the biggest of all problems, but if I receive some software that says it works on "pc/mac" I would like it to do so without having to buy any other software.

I was a touch sceptical about computer based language programmes before I got this. And, it turns out, for good reason. I don't think it is bad for what it is, but it becomes quite annoyingly prescriptive and doesn't seem to enhance learning all that much.
Maybe it is just me, but it seems there is no short cut to picking up foreign language skills.

I was slightly underwhelmed by the performance of this piece of kit considering its price. I've tried quite a few cheaper external soundcards already and they mostly perform better than this one. The signal recorded is not particular clean - not terrible but not as good as some cheaper soundcards. I experienced some latency problems - not severe, but again, cheaper soundcards from other manufacturers performed better in this area too.
On the positive side, this is a relatively cost effective way to record an instrument (guitar perhaps) and vocals at the same time. To be fair, it does what it says on the tin, just not quite as well as I had hoped.

I was very impressed with this software as I had ideas for novels but just didn't seem to know where to start. The program helps you divide the novel writing into sections, allowing you to develop your characters, plan out all the important events and then finally write all the chapters. It's an excellent way of keeping track of the storyline and the characters without having to re-read what you have written several times.
The ability to generate names, characters and ideas is also particularly useful, although only if you are writing a contemporary novel as all the ideas and names are modern. The program does let you quite easily insert your own names and ideas though. For instance the Standard edition only comes with British and American names but ... Read More:

I was really happy with this software at first, having upgraded from Elements 2, and the results were really great. Then the glitches started to show. I worked on some images for ages, only to find that I couldn't save them or even close the program down. Convinced it was related to my old computer I bought a new one and guess what, all the glitches were still there. I'm going to have a go with Elements 5 before I abandon Adobe altogether. Stay tuned for my experiences with that.
