I used Version 8 on Windows 95 to teach myself to type in the late 90s.
Then I thought it was great. It was a big help.
This version I expected to be more polished. Perhaps more scientific in it's approach; though really it hasn't changed much. Still good.
Purchased for my neice, installation hung on her XP machine during install/registration. Ctrl+Alt+Delete showed registration and installation to behave as two seperate applications. Killed registration and the installation proceeded.
The first thing I noticed was that the interface didn't scale well to a widescreen resolution of 1680 x 1050 some jumbled text in the options dialogue.
i have the 2005 version and i agree with the london-heysham comment. i put in a route from the rotterdam ferry port to Kalmthout, ajourney of 62 miles, it routed via ferry to HULL then by road, 258 mile,to DOVER then a journy of 82 mile by road to Kalmthout, do the "dover ferry" guys pay back-handers to microsoft one wonders !!!!

The graphics are good, the concept is good but the control method on PC is dreadful, for some reason Harry is onscreen anywhere apart from where you want him and he can be facing any direction so when you press the control keys you get unexpected movements, I wish they had made it classic 3rd person control so he is always facing forward, at least that way when you press the forward key he would go forward, add to that the fact that Ron and Hermione are with him 90% of the time and keep getting in the way which makes this game really frustrating. It is good that you can explore Hogwarts as much as you want but it would be better if you could use the map to jump to locations instead of having to run everywhere with the awful control system, you seem to ... It's always sound commercial sense to shoot yourself in the foot by alientaing your core customers. I'm a self confessed early adopter, so I knew this would be a challenge but after many months I've given up and moved to Open Office!

As an antivirus software package- Norton is capable of doing the job you paid for it. It is a system that will defend the computers in your home and it is possible not to pull your hair out whilst installing it as I have done with previous antivirus software packages. But alas my friends, this will probably be the last antivirus you will buy due to microsoft announcing the end of their One care antivirus system and giving it free in 2009.
The penny drops - why buy antivirus software if there is an adequate replacement available for free.
Microsoft do have a habit of stuffing things up and getting products late to market but it does beg the question - why buy a product which you could be getting for free....

This has to be the best in the world for online safety.
Gamers are known for turning off their firewalls with this one there is no need for that at all.
With its ease of installation and none of that messing about with it to get it how you want for your machine, its a doddle to install. Just install & forget about it.
I now know why this is voted the best everywhere, it found a virus on my computer that my old (but well known)virus software hadnt picked up, problem solved.
It is so easy to use. Good value for money and the one Amazon is selling is for a 3 pc license....Awesome

I totally agree with the reviewer that complained about the difficulty to get into the box. I too was foxed until I stopped trying to open it instinctively and had a concentrated thoughtful good look at the box. Whoever came up with the design... please, let others do the job. Packaging isn't meant to be a puzzle to be solved.
As for the software itself... hmmm... I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive after reading the divided opinions here and I guess my three stars indicate that I, too, am divided about it. Maybe once I have used it for a year or so, I might get the hang of it but as of now, I am still missing the old version and trying to work out the new.
I wouldn't say it's total rubbish, but not the bee's knees either!
