Bento is a basic database for unsophisticated Mac users. It is very easy to use and inexpensive compared (for example) Filemaker.
If you need to create a list of your contacts, your photos or whatever Bento is ideal and also user friendly. No, it is not a fully fledged bells and whistles database but for many people it will be all they need. If uncertain download the trial version and see whether it is for you before buying. Think twice before buying FrontPage 2002. Most of the reviews here are written by novices who are easily impressed with something like FrontPage because it lets them make a pretty "My First Website" in a quick and easy way (at a very high price). Once you've realised how embarrasingly childish your web site looks, turning it into something more professional is very difficult indeed. Worse still, many special features require your web hosting service to change their servers over to using (you guessed it) Microsoft software, under the pressure from users of FrontPage! This software offers so much and is so poorly thought out, it is costing my business money. Firstly, it has English as a secondary language. When you update your product catalogue, it deletes everything on your server.This makes it slower as you increase your product range.
The shopping cart is very buggy and if anything is wrong it vanishes from your customers browser. It is very frustrating to use and despite the fact that I am prepared to have a bit of a fiddle with the config files when it goes wrong, (and it will go wrong), the damn thing switches to German. I know it was cheap - £9.99 for basic from PC World and £34.95 for better version with News editor from PC World. i have been using and teaching dreamweaver since version 1. and so understandably have a bias towards it. i really couldnt reccommend any other software tool, for such an overall control and design of websites and webpages. For the beginner there is a little work to be done, especially as the product increases in size with each release. but it is a fairly quick and satisfying learning curve to get the first site up and running, and from there its just a case of continual wonder. the other great thing about dreamweaver is the openendedness of the product, its not a case of just what comes out of the box, theres a huge community of dedicated dreamweaver users and developers, and huge ammounts of extensions which can be found on the macromedia website. the best ...
