I've been using this product to help with my academic writing. I'm amazed at how accurate the recognition software is and how it remembers and improves the more you use it. I now dictate everything and correct any mistakes when I do a readthrough and edit what I did wrote, which I always did when typing anyway so it's no extra work. I would recommend anyone who does a lot of typing to try this software.
The only gripe is the headset which is a bit low quality and quite painful after a while, typically I could work 2 hours at a go after which my head hurt. I bought a more comfortable set (less than £10) but the ear pads made my ears overheat. In the end I butchered the original headset and adapted the microphone to sit on my desk. ... Read More:

As a business user I don't really have anything good to say about Office 2007. The new interface now requires 3-4 mouse clicks where 2-3 were needed previously. Many of the keyboard shortcuts no longer work or don't work the way they used to (I don't use the mouse very often). It's not possible to customise the menu structure to any extent as Microsoft have imposed the "ribbon" structure with it's fixed content.
Many of the highlight colours just don't stand out e.g. highlighting text is pink on a white background but highlighted buttons are a sort of yellow colour. There are also only 3 colour schemes available, blue, silver or black. None is particularly attractive and none is particularly clear. Differentiating between several windows ... Read More:

I have used both Lotus SmartSuite and Microsoft Office in various versions for well over a decade. Both suites are incredibly powerful but for me the application which really makes the difference between the two is Lotus Approach.
I first discovered with brilliant software when it was in its first version, before it became part of SmartSuite. I have used it as a development platform for a wide range of applications for all sorts of clients from lawyers to catering suppliers and from CRM applications to invoicing. It is a staggeringly good piece of software that makes Access seem sluggish in performance and slow during development.
A couple of years back a long term client asked me to redevelop an Approach based application that was a core ... Read More:

I have used Norton/Symantec products for over 10 years and love the products, but why does the company have to be so dodgy.
Firstly, when the 1 year updates end, they want you to subscribe or upgrade, but they don't value you as a customer. Year after year I find they want more money to simply upgrade than you can actually buy a new product for. Last year they wanted £39.99 just to send me a number to continue my subscription, yet I bought a brand new product, boxed, posted etc etc from Amazon for £24.99.
I have bought the new 2008 product this year from a shop for £29.99. I bought this 4 months early because I wanted the free System Works & Go Back. I have used this for many years, but my current product didn't work when I upgraded to Vista. Rip off number two. ... Read More:

I run an Online Astronomy Group HantsAstro.org. This product, once updated works fine with Vista Premium. Visually it's not as pretty as Starry Night, but for the price offers telescope control with updated ASCOM drivers and runs an LXD75 telescope fine in our tests. The star catalogs are accurate and the interface, once learnt is quite useful, if a little clunky compared to Starry Night. As planetarium software goes, with introduction presentations to the night sky it does quite well. The 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' intro turns from amusing to a bit tacky after the third time you load it, but thankfully this can be turned off. Being able to generate your own reports for a nights oberving is a useful feature. If you want telescope control, this is a good deal but if you want eye ... Read More:
