This is an OEM version, which I bough to use with Parallels on my iMac. I had a disc crash and had to reinstall all software again. When it came to validating XP I was told that this is a single install OEM version and I should contact my PC manufacturer! There was nobody in Microsoft I could talk to and in the end had to buy another 'so called' Genuine Advantage kit for nearly £70!

Been running this since it was pre-installed on my new laptop in October last year and much to my amazement, I've had ZERO problems. No crashes, no freezing, no wierd stuff. Yeah, difficult to believe, I know. Truth is, Vista has handled everything I've thrown at it without even breaking into a sweat. Windows Update keeps it all purring like a pussy cat without my even thinking about it. There's much improved security, lots of new easier to use features, and it looks great, too. If all you need is a solid OS and don't give a rats about the fancy and graphically intensive stuff in the Premium edition, get this. Wouldn't like to run it on less than a gig of RAM though. Good job, Microsoft.
I was very disappointed in the 64-bit version and I should have known that if THE major on-line only manufacturer of 64-Bit (Intel/AMD) PC's do not ship (as of Nov 2006) this OS with their 64-bit processors then there must be a reason.
And there was. Make sure you have a 64-Bit version of your ethernet driver (if you are on broadband) or Modem (for dial-up) BEFORE you install this OS.
Whist setting the machine up to work with standard software like MS Office and business printers was no problem, home-based hardware drivers are more difficult to come by.
Whist the OS supports 32-Bit drivers, they do not work in many cases. This is why I feel most disappointed that MS did not get this one working correctly.

Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 is a solid product, built on Microsoft Windows Server 2003, but with the addition of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. It is very easy to install, although allow upto 2 hours to complete this task. The wizards provided through the Manage Server tool are well thought out and simple to use. Within no time you will have an internet gateway installed, with intranet, remote access, web based email, etc. Two unique features include the POP3 exchnage addon (for downloading email from an ISP and distributing it to users) and the shared fax (allowing print to fax for all users). This is a polished product, being simple to administer, but with all the power of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 underneath.
