I have always used Adobe Premiere since version 6.0 several years ago, assuming that it was the best Windows-based video editing package. However, my problems first began when trying the edit the footage from my new HDV video camera - Premiere Pro (despite being advertised as being HD-friendly) could not handle the files without conversion, which is a long process. I decided to give Sony's own Vegas software a try due to compatability with my video camera's files.
So, how is it to use compared to Premiere? The workspace layout is slightly different to the Adobe software, with more control available through the timeline itself (transitions, audio transitions, adding text, video effects etc) rather than being relegated to the 'Effects ... Read More:

There is a small issue with Vista however - my version being Home Premium SP1. The OS informed me that there was an incompatible driver which as it happens is untrue; the fault being Vista's alone. Happily, on the support forum, there is a pointer to a simple fix and all is now well.

Just started using it and not only is it great for movies I used it for my photo editing and made a brilliant DVD using the template facility. The amount of extra special effects is stunning and easy to use the multi tracking idea is simple and in truth addictive. 10/10 from me

Bought this as an upgrade from Dance eJay5 which I've been using for some time. The program is much easier to use than Dance 5 as the mixer and arranger functionality in 5 has now been brought into the same interface. The range of pre-defined synths and effects is amazing and does almost everything you want straight out of the box. Enable the advanced features and the effects list becomes almost infinite as you have total control over all the parameters of each effect! The drum sequencer is a doddle to use and can quickly produce quality sounding percussion sequences. The bass and lead synths are almost as easy, except that you can only see one keyboard octave at a time due to the height of the display. It's a pity they didn't make the keyboard ... Read More:

Make no bones about this - Logic Express 8 is *not* for someone to get to grips with over a cup of tea and a biscuit. This is the (slightly) cut-down brother of the excellent Logic Studio software (indeed it is a superset of Logic Express plus other tools). As a result you end up with an excellent professional tool at a *very* cheap price.
This product is highly recommended for those people who are *serious* about making music, as opposed to the people who like to play about with GarageBand. It has a steep learning curve but you will be glad you persevered.
You need as powerful a machine as you can possibly get for this software, however. My iMac G5 with 2GB RAM just about does OK, but one of the more powerful Intel-based ... Read More:

This software is brilliant. Easy to use, hassle free software that does the job it's meant to. User friendly interface which makes navigation easy and painless.
I am able to save my DVD's to my hard drive exactly as they appear on the original disc without losing any of the cool features on the DVD.
