While there's a knack to getting the pump working (you need to seal the hole completely with your foot on the down stroke and then remove it to let air in on the up stroke - barefoot is best), once you've got it worked out this is a great spare bed.
I live in a small flat and this blows up quickly, is big enough to sleep on but light enough to move out of the way during the day and it is comfy enough for a few nights. I've had no complaints from guests and I've slept on it myself for a few nights (and I agree with putting a spare duvet or blanket on the top of the mattress for more warmth, but I'm a cold bod). I bought my first Champ in 1988 and it is still in regular use, having only had a replacement toothpick (15p) and scissor spring (50p). In 1998 I bought the Victorinox SOS kit, which included another Champ, as it was on offer (c£50). It is still as new. Here we are in 2008 and at this price perhaps it is time to buy another one?

Having bought this I have found it very useful as a replacement for my old pocket knife that has since bent out of use. This one is great value for money as it includes all your basic needs from a Swiss army knife. Small and medium sized knives, corkscrew, 2 bottle openers, small saw and scissors all useful to anyone fancying a little camping trip or who just needs a practical little knife for work.

This is my first Leatherman and I really love it. The design is great and it feels better than the swiss army knives, however it has all the features you need except a can opener or sissors (which are not that neccessary).I rate a four star for this reason and hope that Leatherman will bring out an extra bit that goes where the screwdriver is so as to make this tool truely the travelers choice.

I felt I should write this review as I was so taken by the glowing reviews of others and my experience after buying only deserves two stars.
The mask is of a decent quality which is why I have given it two stars however it fails to block out light completely, allowing in around areas where it doesn't fit the face properly. It is possible to achieve total block out but only if you take the time to position it in an exact place and tuck in the bottom skirt precisely - of course this goes out of the window once your go to sleep. You also need to have it on relatively tight to block out the light and stop it from sliding around your face. I got this for a 5 night camping holiday.
I bought a different regulator for it to allow me to use calor gas which i can get for free which is good.. It cooks well, i suppose it depends on your pans but get some copper base ones and you will have no problems. The flame went out a few times due to wind.. This only occured when the gas was at its lowest setting - when i turned it up it never went out. I used both hobs and the grill simultaneously and again encountered no issues. For cooking proper meals while camping, 2 hobs and a grill is a must. The grill is great to keep things warm when you need more space in your frying pan. Orange bar is slightly annoying and unneccesary. I found the glasses to be quite big, and suitable for people with bigger heads unless you want to run the risk of looking like a mouse! Stays on your face well with the metal hooks, but can be a bit scratchy and annoying to put on, especially if you are trying to do so smoothly :). No huge problems, but as with buying any item of clothing off the internet, it would have been better to try them on in real life first.

I was very excited about this as I hate using the loo's at festivals, it takes alot of practise so try it loads before you get to a festival as it's the last place you want to be wearing jeans drenched in urine for 4 days.
I found you have to push it so far into yourself it's quite uncomfortable, if you don't you pee all down yourself which is slightly embarrassing when walking back past people queuing.It is difficult with jeans on, I gave up, but it was good in my tent,peeing into a large shandy bottle- saves stumbling across fields in the night to the loos. Don't even think about trying to use it if you are drunk though- I did and I may as well have used nothing, I'm 42 and it made me feel like a 3 year old again! >>More Details |
