I bought this for my son's 2nd birthday and it was an instant hit. Now nearly a year later it is his favourite toy and he can't put it down. He loves putting the track together and pushing the trains around making up stories. We've recently bought him some more track which was urgently needed. With Christmas coming he keeps asking for more track still and more of the trains to add to his collection. It is very durable and an excellent toy to take away as the trains and the track all pack away inside. I will definitely be buying more of the 'take along' playsets to add to this one.

7 months ago I bought this Scalextric for my granddaughters, 4 yrs and 6 yrs old, to play with when they visit. It has been a great success. Visiting 6 to 10 year olds also loved it.
None of the children have problems putting the cars on the track themselves, partly due to the magnets that help hold the cars on the track. The cars go at incredible speeds (10 laps in 12 seconds). At full throttle they will fly off, but that is all part of the skill and fun - keeping them on the track so you win! My cars were not damaged when they came off but a couple of cushions strategically placed would make sure there was no damage. I have had no problems with cars being stopped by the track. This is a good starter set for anyone looking to get in to Railway modelling or convert to DCC models.
I bought this after an absence of 16 years in Model railways and loved it, the Pendolinos tilt mechanisms good, and you can really see it on 2nd and 3rd radius curves. Christmas day and my boys were chuffed to get this toy, then I set it up and all looked good and the kids loved it! Then, when I unplugged the handsets, the soldered end connectors snapped off and are now rattling about in the unit! Poorly manfactured handsets and a huge disappointment to my boys! I hanr returned it as it is now unusable.

For some reason one of our sons favourites is Toby. This is a great piece and i notice he plays with it a lot. Pity there is no windmill to go with one of the Toby stories (yes i know, like you no doubt...i too am forced to watch them). There is one thing to be aware. this is one of the heavier take along pieces, so if you child is prone to the odd mood to rocket launch toys, you would be advised to steer clear of this, its about double the weight of a normal take along train. the colouring, painting and moulding is spot on on realism.

My son has the take along engine sheds and this extra track is a must to add onto this. Very easy for my two year old to put together and very durable. Comes with adapters so that it can fit the more up to date version of the track that some of the take along sets now come with.

My son has a large collection of the take along Thomas range. These little trains are perfect for taking out and about - they're a lovely size. Ours have lasted quite well considering the heavy play they get from 4 young kids. OK, so they may have a few little chips in them now, but nothing that would take any fun out of them - they just look more authentic!!! And they don't chip nearly as easily as the wooden range.
