My sons (now 4 & 3) got this for Christmas last year and it has been an inspired buy. Of all the toys that they have this has outlasted them all and my 3 year old still spends hours with it. It's extremely robust and takes has the space inside for all their cars, or anything else they want to hide inside.
The cars are made up of the wheelbase, front section and back section and are interchangeable with each other so you can create new cars. What's great is that the pieces are nice and chunky, so if they do get pulled apart they don't tend to get lost.
This is definately recommended as a well built and lasting toy!

It's Lego. We all know what it is and what it's capable of.
The booklet with this gives you easy to follow blueprints for turning pieces of plastic into either a slightly bland digger type construction, or the much groovier dune buggy, complete with rear suspension and rack and pinion steering.
It took about an hour or two to make the digger and around the same for the buggy. If you're buying for someone younger it would likely take them a little longer, but the instructions are easy to follow.
Most of all, it looks pretty snazzy parked up in front of my bookcase. ;)
For a budget Lego set you can't go wrong.
