An interesting subject with just the right level of difficulty for a casual puzzler. It took about 8-10 hours which is about right for me. Different sections such as river, sky, parkland, houses helped sorting into manageable chunks. I'll do it again some time.

The Settlers of Catan is just a fun game! The ever changing board gives a different strategy style every game. It is quite simple to pick up (although some of the photographs showing games in action can lead you believe that it's difficult). There is an aspect of planning, trading, building and a little luck (but just a little) which shows why this is a best seller. Forget Monopoly and other outdated, tedious games, this is great!
The actual game takes about an hour and a half to two hours for first time plays, but as you gain experience this is reduced. In a world that is obsessed with computer gaming, this game brings the board game back where it belongs... in the family.

my kids got this game and I am totally addicted, we carry it with us
on holidays minus the casing, just using the dice.
we can all play from the 6 yr old up, just in teams.
It is fun and educational.
Buy it.

I asked for this for my daughter for Christmas after seeing good reviews on Amazon. I wasn't disappointed. This game is advertised from 6-8 which personally I think is slightly too old. My daughter is almost 5 and was hooked right from the beginning. She spent an hour or more working her way through the cards - and she was much less inclined to give up than I was! Since then this is a game she returns to over and over again and I am definitely planning to take it with us on a long haul flight later in the year. Some of the cards are too hard for her at the moment but I'm sure she'll grow into them in the next year or so. This is a very educational game - encouraging them to think around a problem and also increasing spacial intelligence - but fun at the ... Read More:

The children really enjoyed this (boys and girls) and although they didn't play with it for a long time, still kept returning to it. I think it would be better to get one with more pieces if you intend more than one child to play with it as you quickly run out of them. The set also seems to be well made.

We bought this for our son's Christmas present - he'd enjoyed the movie - and we hoped it would be similar to Mousetrap but hopefully more durable.
I have to say that the bits are well made and much more sturdy than mousetrap, but then at about three times the price you would hope so!
The trap itself slotted together well and works most of the time, but the big disappointment is the game itself. You move round the board picking up tokens with your colour food on it, but it is never really explaind in the instructions what you should do if you don't pick up the correct colour. You are forever having to set off the trap when it will have no effect on the game, and once one person gets infront that is basically it!
