A fantastic game for all the family, which is pretty faultless (although I found the rules very complex!) Can I suggest next time that Tomy include a plastic diary?? Other than that it is a perfect depiction of DAD-BOB.

Firstly, the sloping runways as the first obstacle is NOT a design flaw - you are supposed to time it so that the ball is still rolling forwards as the slopes change direction (another reviewer has commented that the first runways cause the ball to always move in the wrong direction). The idea is not to just let you press buttons and watch as the ball moves - the point is to cause the user to think how to reach the end using basic physics, adding to its educational value.
The game loses a lot of replay value, unless you are determined to beat your fastest score. This is possible, and suprisingly hard - its very easy to make one slip up and have to start over (unless you cheat and put the ball back onto where it fell off!)

I started on the "childs themed" 6 inch diametre 240pc globe, with animals on as I wasnt too sure about the whole puzzle globe concept, (being a traditional jigsaw fan)
first upon opening it up, I thought "ooh, thats different" as due to the fact of it being a 3 dimentional puzzle, it had 2 round bits (north and south pole) and 2, 4cm x 15cm lengths (approx)to act as picture references
how to use them was sussed out very quickly.
I found that the pieces were nicely finished off, shiny, smooth and tactile, they made a positive tight fit which made the puzzle sturdy (as it gets lifted up and handled alot whilst making) they were also numbered on the back and I first thought "oh, thats a cheat" (but soon really needed the numbers ... The world has gone mad, I'm 26 and I would say I learnt a lot through many of these old games which required a little brain workout. Buy the classic version; it's great fun and you'll actually get to use some brain power :)

My six year old son has astounded me with this game. Not only can he beat me hands down at it, he has memorised all the info contained in the cards.
This simple little game has fired up his imagination and play is often interupted by questions on weight, height etc as well as the expected history and dinosaur queries. He has played this game so often, the cards have become a little dog-eared (to the point where he can recognise my cards from the bends and marks and chose a category that he knows he can trump me with!) So in the interest of fair play, I am buying him a new set.
I thoroughly recommend this game, along with the Space Top Trumps. For a few pounds you will have a fun, educational game that your child will never get bored with.

I remember when the first version of this game came out in this form when I was a lad and my mum being quite dismayed that a game she used to play with pencil and paper was now presented by little plastic boats and hit and miss pegs!
Nearly 30 years on from that event, my children and I are still getting plenty of enjoyment out of this game and I would heartily recommend this as a great addition to the games cupboard for the whole family.
Where this strategy game works very well is that even if a adult is playing against a much younger child because there is always an element of luck in the hitting of your opponent's ships and a random placement of your ships can work just as well as a much thought out one, the chances of the child beating ... We have a new leapster 2 for my four year old who is really loving it. But we had only been using it a few hours and when we turned it off for lunch ( 15mins!) the screen was completely unresponsive when we tried to switch it back on just like the reviewer below. I remember reading this review before purchase and got the manual out and recalibrated the screen and it is working for now. Not impressed though. It is not something a child can do and it is a toy that you want them to pick up and be free to use without an adult having to "fix" it every time.
