This is a good educational toy with easy to follow instructions for setting up circuits. The connections are robust as they are based on magnets - easy for a child to construct and pull apart. My only quibble is the scientific explanations which are too difficult for a 7-8 year old. It needs a simple description/glossary for each component with uses within a circuit followed by the more complicated description. Relies therefore on parental help - pretty non-existent in my household!
One engineer's symbol (light) is inconsistent.

My boyfriend was bought this as a present when he changed career to train as a doctor. We thought it was a pretty funny joke gift but that was all - didn't expect it would be fun to actually play as adults. How wrong we were! It was brought out one evening over Christmas (after we'd had a few sherries!) and proved to be hilarious. Try keeping your hand still after you've had a few and you'll see what I mean! It brought out the competitive nature of some of the guys in the room too, who couldn't help getting frustrated with their inability to use tweezers (women have an advantage here!) and mocking each other for repeatedly setting off the buzzer. It's a pretty basic idea and not intellectually challenging, and it is quite flimsily made (the ... Read More:

I originally bought this for one of my twin sons and they fought over it so much that I had to buy another. They both love it and there are no more fights.

We bought dancing Iggle-Piggle for our little boy for Christmas and like others we were disappointed. There is supposedly some kind of sensor in Iggle-Piggles hand that recognises that he has his blanket - this didn't work on ours, it didn't work on the second one we exchanged it for either! This coupled with the painfully slow reaction times and the uncuddliness of Iggle-Piggle meant he went back to the shop. Can't say we are missing him!

My 3 year old girl got that as a present and she was initially thrilled with the novelty of it. The colour doesn't run so it's "mess free" colourwise but as the paste in the pots is grease, everything gets greasy. The sponges also need regular wash as my daughter used the same sponge for all the colours and later pictures ended all orangy..It's a nice novel idea, but a greasy one too, so I'm not very impressed. Also my daughter stopped using it as soon as the novelty weaned...4 stars for the novelty of it...Crayola keep trying...

I bought this as a small 'top up' gift for my son's 6th birthday - he loves it, even though the end product is a little bit of plastic in the shape of a dinosuar that's only and inch or so long...
His two-year old sister really went wild for it too, and has kept it under her pillow all week.
So although it's nothing special as far as us adults are concerned, it has something about it that kids really go for.
It'd make a good stocking filler for Christmas.

We bought this camera for our son's third birthday and decided to test it before he knew about it and I'm glad we did as we have sent the camera back for a refund.
The camera is physically ideal - big chunky buttons that are easy to press, screw down covers for the batteries so he can't pull it apart and it's generally quite rugged and kid-proof.
The problem is the use of this camera as, well, a camera. It takes shots that are 640x480 and they all come out looking slightly blurred, if indeed they come out at all. It only really works outdoors during the day; try to use it indoors and the viewscreen is so dark you can barely see anything and the flash is pretty much worthless.
This toy looks absolutely beautiful, very life-like of a golden retriever puppy. However the mechanics are far from great, they are very noisy and very "rachety" we had our puppy only a day and during that time he was only "working" a few times then he laid down by command something made a very loud noise in his back and he couldn't get up again, presumably something had broken, which I was very annoyed about as he is expensive and for that sort of money you don't expect the "puppy" to break in such a short space of time and particularly as it wasn't a child that had it. We also noticed that although he did the 6 commands he didn't necessarily do them when he was "told"to, he basically did what he wanted.!a bit like our "real" golden retriever!!. ... Read More:
