The rip-stick is one of those things where you will buy it, have a go and can't do it. Walk away and not go on it until you see it and finally get to know it. i had a go on my friends one, couldn't do it so therfore thought it was rubbish. but when i had gone on it for more than 1/2 hour. it was GREAT FUN. when you do it you get so addicted and can't stop. a great product which certainly isn't a 5-minute-wonder. I have two boys, 11 & 9 and a girl aged 7 - all find this fantastic and are still playing with this 6 months on.
As it has a single wheel front and back, some help in starting off is necessary to get your balance. Once you get the hang of surfing (rather than skating) - i.e. pushing the back foot back and forth and leaning into corners, it becomes easier, and you can propell yourself forward without having to take a foot off to push yourself along. By moving the feet the opposite way allows you turn in a very short space (although a little unnerving for the people standing close by!)
