We bought this train as an individual item without any compatible track as the reviews for the train set itself were very poor. We were quite dubious when purchasing this product but it was something our 4 year old son really wanted. It has turned out to be a great buy. Not only is it a great little train but it is compatible with the Tomy Thomas track of which we have miles and miles from our elder sons! It has been played with every day for the past fortnight and is still chucking along as I write this review. Good value for money.

This set was bought as a christmas gift for my son and it was the only thing he wanted to play with all over the holidays, so if you child loves Thomas they would really appreciate this. I do agree with the previous review to say that the batteries don't last long on the Plane but a set of rechargables and you good to go. The train and plane tracks themselves are quite durable it all clips together and doesn't keep coming apart if they are rough (which my torture is). All in all a big thumbs up from me and my litte monster.

Although this is a good looking engine, the battery is housed in the coal truck, and there are wires joining the coal truck to the engine. These wires soon broke with the normal play of my 3 year old, so now James can't be battery driven. We had the same problem with Henry. Now I always look for trains with the battery in the engine itself, such as Thomas or Diesel.

A nice addition to the Brio set we'd just bought for our daughter (nearly three). She likes to wind the handle to make the bridge go up and down and likes the little gates at either side too. A nice touch is that the handle's been designed to be held and turned by small hands.
The one caveat is that you need a special piece of track from Brio to allow track to go under the bridge rather than just over it. It's difficult to find and without it, the bridge doesn't have as much appeal.
