Dont go to venice without this book , it has everything you need . We brought this along with the Lonely Planet Map and they were both excellent. Venice can be really busy but this book has many suggestions of where to spend your time. A perfect guide to a beautiful city.

I know it's my personal bug-bear, but as with most guidebooks on Spain the Murcia region isn't given the same treatment as other regions - just 10 pages (that wrongly suggest that all we've got there is beaches and golf courses) to cover the whole region while Valencia gets 50! That said, I like the Lonely Planet guides, they are beautifully produced and the colour photos are always outstanding.

A fabulous LP guide to a fabulous country. Thorough, accurate and honest reviews of everything and anything. AND, unlike other lonely planets, there is a wicked sense of humour and healthy cynicism. These guys dont take themselves too seriously!! Highly recommended.

This guide is perfect for the first time cruiser and proved to be an extremely interesting and informative guide for my wife and I. The book guides you through the most common excursions, avoiding sickness, bartering with the locals, tipping the guide and boat crew etc. I read it in one sitting at home but frequently returned to the guide during the cruise. The guide is perhaps not particularly useful for seasoned visitors but it is perfect for the novice. Highly recommended.

The guide book is useful, interesting and really helps you make the most of your time in Cambodia. I wouldn't have seen half of the amazing places if I hadn't taken it with me. The information in it is accurate despite what the local taxi drivers may say!! Stand your ground!! There is no need to buy any extra guide books when you're there either - all of their information is included in this one. The only thing the book doesn't prepare you for is the random overpricing that has occurred, the variation from shop to shop is immense. Shop where the locals shop and you'll save a fortune.

I bought this, along with the Rough guide to Hong Kong & Macau and the Rough guide DIRECTIONS: Hong Kong & Macau (as I couldn't make up my mind which seemed best!) and have to say, this is the one I used on my trip. The pull out map is a lifesaver & I would have been completely lost without it. The book is divided up into sections by geographical area and then tells you what to see and do/where to eat and drink there. I found this much easier to use than the rough guide, which had an "eating" section - you then had to decide what type of food you were in the mood for and then see if any of the restaurants in that category were in the district you were visiting. Confusing! Obviously, the book is titchy which is great for stuffing in yourr pocket ... Read More:

I recently went to New York for the first time and this book went everywhere with me. I first opened it on the flight over and couldn't put it down. The street maps in the back and the subway map in the front were invaluable. The Brit Tips were especially useful and the section on 'what to see and do' prompted me to take the Gray Line Tours which were fantastic value and showed me so much more than I could have seen by myself. (Take the 'Night Loop' tour over to Brooklyn to view the Manhattan skyline at night - spectacular!) Even my British friend that I stayed with kept borrowing it from me, so it's now looking a bit worn. The street maps are clearly marked with all the attractions, buildings and places to see which really helped me to 'map out' an itinerary each ... Read More:

It would seem almost impossible to write a one-volume travel book on the USA but somehow Rough Guides has managed it in style.
I would usually hesitate to spend more than £15 on a paperback but this is so detailed and well-written I find myself returning to it again and again.
These days it's probably easier to use online resources when choosing accommodation but as a pithy guide to resorts and for planning trip itineries, this Rough Guide is invaluable.
