After reading all the good reviews of this guide I just bought it based on them. I should have gone and had a look at the book first. While it did list all the attractions it did not tell you how to get to any of them. There was a map reference but I wanted to know which was the nearest metro/tube stop , which tram went there, which stop to get off at.Also the name of many attractions were only sign posted in Czech but the guide book only had them named in English so I couldn't match up the signs. Disappointed with book but not with Prague.

A huge amount of effort and research has gone into this chunky guide. Just choosing the pictures must have been a mammoth task: they're all up to date, in colour and give a clear idea of the delights of the various cities and attractions.

I used to work in a visitor information office in Wales and found the section on South Wales particularly well done, especially since it's an area off the typical tourist track. The only thing which let it down was the hotel recommendations. They tend to be in areas often way outside of town and city centres, so aren't much use to those travelling without cars.

It may be a little heavy to carry round with you, but it's ideal as a reference source if you're at home researching a ... Read More:

Despite the inferior quality of the photo reproduction I've always thought that Rough Guide is better value than Lonely Planet. It is generally more informative, more erudite, and the style is arguably geared to a wider readership, while LP leans more towards backpackers and gap-year students. I also think LP is more prone to hyperbole while Rough Guide is normally unflinchingly honest about places. It's perceived negativity is for me a bonus as it is often better to travel with lower or at least realistic expectations. As it says in the opening gambit, many travellers head for India expecting to 'encounter a timeless ascetic wonderland and are surprised to find one of the most materialistic societies on the planet'. I think this is pretty spot-on. ... Read More:

I love this book! I absolutely love it, although the key to these sorts of guides is "take it with a pich of salt", that is read the descriptions of the areas, see what it has to offer but then leg it there and have a look by yourself.
Info on schools, council tax, local stats, restaurants and parks etc are included, but this book is generally great for getting a feeling and a bit of history of the area.
I found it quite thruthful.
New edition has added more places (such as Kingston on Thames) but I admit it is still not a complete bible...

It has been since December 2005, that I have visited this busy and buzzing city of Bangkok. I needed a nice and easy guide which would pinpoint all the main attractions of Bangkok and the Lonely Planet offers me all the answers I needed to make the best out of my journey in Bangkok. It is a handy guide to have.

Bangkok (Lonely Planet) is a short and useful guide, complimented with pictures and brief text about particular attractions of Bangkok. It details all the hotels, restaurants, bars, museums and shops available in Bangkok. What more do you want? In addition, it offers advice on key matters, such as travellers cheques, culture, transport and banks. Make the best out of your journey in Bangkok by using this guide. What more do you want? ... The Rough Guides rarely disappoint. They are thorough and interesting. My only complaint is that Murcia, as usual in guidebooks like this, just doesn't get the treatment it deserves. I always buy the most recent edition, but suggest you can probably skip an edition now and then!
