VHS : I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle [1989]

I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle [1989]

starring: Neil Morrissey, Amanda Noar, Michael Elphick, Anthony Daniels, Andrew Powell
directed by: Dirk Campbell
March 08, 1999

This is not only one of the best, but one of the funniest films I have ever seen. Neil Morrisey buys a motorcycle at a cheap price and later discovers it to be a vampire. It goes on a big killing spree and starts to dismember the public. It was also filmed around near where I live so it seems quite familiar. With hilarious jokes, gory fx and a great british cast including C3PO Anthony Daniels as a priest it is unmissable. Its absolutely great!

VHS : The Scarlet Pimpernel [1982]

The Scarlet Pimpernel [1982]

starring: Anthony Andrews, Jane Seymour, Ian McKellen, James Villiers, Eleanor David
directed by: Clive Donner
September 18, 2000

Clive Donner's 1982 Scarlet Pimpernel is an exciting blend of two Baroness Orczy novels, 'The Scarlet Pimpernel' and 'Eldorado' (written around the supposed rescue of the young Dauphin, when it was still historically unclear whether or not the son of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette might have survived the Revolution). Instead of trying to cram every last detail of the main story into the film (as with the 1934 Leslie Howard production), or completely losing all sense of the original template (the 1998 series), this film manages to stay true to the spirit of the books, and pay homage to its black and white predecessor, whilst creatively translating page to screen. This is the only Scarlet Pimpernel version to include Percy's romancing of ... Read More:

VHS : Haunted [1995]

Haunted [1995]

starring: Aidan Quinn, Kate Beckinsale, Anthony Andrews, John Gielgud, Anna Massey
directed by: Lewis Gilbert
October 14, 1996

A really underrated and superbly acted ghost story, similar in feel
To the Others. Aidan Quinn specialises in debunking paranormal
Events. But he is called out to a country mansion to investigate
A woman who claims she is haunted.

And when events start to happen all is not at it seems.
Great chemistry Between Beckinsale and Quinn. Also A.Andrews and Gielgud are very Good. Andrews strange relationship with Beckinsale and a subplot About Quinns ghosts of his own past either real or imagined, are all explained at the end. But for me Beckinsale steals the movie she looks great and plays her role well, highly recommended.

VHS : Another 48 Hrs. [1990]

Another 48 Hrs. [1990]

starring: Eddie Murphy, Nick Nolte, Brion James, Kevin Tighe, Ed O'Ross
directed by: Walter Hill

At times, Another 48 Hrs. seems less like a sequel to than a parody of the first 48 Hrs., especially when Nick Nolte, repeating his role from the earlier film, begins commenting on the clinched absurdity of the goings on. This time, Nolte risks life, limb and career as he obsessively tries to bring an elusive master criminal known as 'The Iceman' to justice. Eddie Murphy, who stole the show in the first 48 Hrs. as the wheeler-dealer convict who becomes Nolte's reluctant partner, is brought into the plot line of the second film when a contract is taken out on his life. The adversarial relationship between Nolte and Murphy, supposedly dissipated by the end of the first film, is revivified in the sequel via a couple of plot devices. Still, Murphy rallies ... VHS : Ice Cold In Alex [1958]

Ice Cold In Alex [1958]

starring: John Mills, Anthony Quayle, Sylvia Syms, Harry Andrews, Diane Clare
directed by: J. Lee Thompson
June 19, 2000

People here who rate this at 5 stars are way over the top. This is a good film but no more than that. Plot is nothing special, acting workmanlike (John Mills playing the same sort of part he did 100 times before and afterwards), desert landscapes interesting. The film could never be more than pretty good because the director, Lee Thompson, was a journeyman with no vision or style.

If people want to see real ***** acting in a war film, then get hold of The Guns of Batasi and just savour Richard Attenborough as the sergeant major. He makes these actors look like carthorses.

I watched it on TV and purchased the DVD and watched it 3 times consecutively for 9 hours! A great well-balanced production. I would have given 5 stars if only the DVD had included subtitles features..
