It was a pleasure to see and hear Shirley Jones singing again. I bought the movie (on DVD) just to hear "Till There Was You".
I remembered Paul of "The Beatles" singing it in about 1962 at a show in Bournemouth earlier on in their career (the late great Billy Fury was also appearing at the same holiday resort).
I imagine it was the kind of song that Paul would have liked to have composed.
Shirley Jones was a very capable singer in the two 50's movies associated with her "Oklahoma" and "Carousel" and at that age, reminds me of the glorious Deanna Durbin who in turn succeeded Jeanette MacDonald. All of them were excellent actresses too. Deanna of course being a younger teenage star at first. All wonderful ... Read More:

Don't expect 21st century effects, sex and gore. This 1960's movie is a great tale about the the authors of the stories from childhood. The dragon scene is mildly violent but it is a childrens/family film so don't expect anything that may give nightmares to little ones.

Yes, this is a great comedy movie with endless gags played with immeasurable talent by the finest comedy actors of the time. It zips along merrily, almost exhaustingly at first but sags a little bit in the second half. Don't worry, it comes to life again. I was only a kid when I saw this at the movies and it left me worn out from laughing and has stuck with me ever since; I always have to have a copy handy for a boost.
But, even as a child, I knew this movie had done something else, it had captured a zeitgeist (I didn't know that word then). You are looking at Southern California before all the grey arrived. Much of the desert scenery in the movie is now tract housing, the cars are now bland and the people are out shopping.
How could you gather ... Read More:

Lovely DVD! One for the whole family to enjoy. I'm happy enough for my kids to watch the latest blockbuster action movie with its inevitable violence, but it's great to find gems like this that they can also enjoy - films which are just, well, nice!

This was the first video I ever bought as a child and it's still one of my favourites. It's Disney's best film. The songs are fantastic and the story of Ariel, a mermaid who just wants to be a human and expereince all the things humans do, is brilliant.
17 years on from it's original release and the Little Mermaid is as good as it ever was. A must-see film for everyone!
