The patient is Francis Bigger, played by Frankie Howerd, and the line is a sly reference to the funniest scene in Carry On Nurse. It's probably the cleverest line in Carry On Doctor. Like Carry On Nurse, Carry On Doctor takes place in hospital and, as the movie says, is a bedpanorama of hospital life. The long-running Carry On movies were bawdy, low-comedy, good-natured madhouses that featured a repertory company of comics we came to recognize instantly. Here, the company is made up of Kenneth Williams, Jim Dale, Hattie Jacques, Sid James, Joan Sims, Charles Hawtrey, Barbara Windsor and Bernard Bresslaw, among others. this film isn't exactly what i would call a real classic. sure, it has all the usual actors but it doen't any humourous moments, like some of the other films in the series. The ending is just plain embarissing. it made me cringe. watch this if you a fan. Carry on Abroad works for two simple reasons. The first being that the film is incredibly funny. The second reason being that what the Brits get up to in the film is practically the same as what they do 30 years on. The actors and actresses are on fine form as per usual. Many people look to these films and bemoan the cheesy acting - but thats part of the charm. Sid James as per usual gets the best one liners, a particular brilliant bit of dialogue occurs with June Whitfield (and explains my review title. One of the brilliant things the actors and actresses did in the film was deliver their lines so dead pan. As per usual Babs Windsor gets her knockers out for every occassion. is this a sequel to the mush lauded carry on doctor,on some levels it is but in terms of characterisation it isnt,fair enough the same cast return more or less but the story takes the drama from the national health service to the private sector and lords that up instead,what we also get here is missionary work where medics were sent abroad to help poorer countries and medic jim dale is asked to do that after becoming disgraced in england,once abroad he meets a bit of a loose cannon in sid james who gives him the medicine to turn large ladies into slimline ones,clearly that would sell well today in this body mad world,but once jim dale returns and becomes a success there are others such as kenny williams and charles hawtrey along with sid james who never knew the real value of his medicine. everyone knows that phil silvers of sgt.bilko fame got the role as sid james was too ill to do this 1967 movie,the producer thought that a big name could fill the void,it couldnt,plus they feed silvers ego by letting him perform some of his own material and staring straight down the camera one time too often,as if he is trying to bond with the audience.However in saying that carry on camel is still a good movie featuring kenny williams,angie ouglas,bernie bresslaw,peter butterworth,joan sims,and jim dale and this film deals with the french foreign legion from the training to the moment of battle,filmed in a beach in england,brighton i think,the film still looks as if it is filmed abroad,the film is witty in what it does but some leading members play second fiddle to silvers,i suppose on a global scale he was the bigger star ...
