As a child i remember watching this film all the time, it was one of my favourites. So when i saw it was on TV a few weeks ago, i decided to watch it. To my surprise i sat through the whole film and absolutely loved it! So i straight away came on Amazon and bought it.
It is a classic for all the family and everyone will love it no matter what there age. it is hilarious, moving and Bigfoot still looks fantastic.
I usually like to buy the more action packed violent movie, but this was truly irresistable.
After years of being only available in a cut 94-minute version, this Fox Classics DVD includes both that and the original roadshow version - with interesting results. In its uncut 110-minute roadshow version, In Old Chicago plays like an even more obvious ripoff of San Francisco, merely substituting Tyrone Power, Don Ameche, Alice Faye and the Chicago fire for Clark Gable, Spencer Tracey, Jeanette MacDonald and the San Francisco earthquake and adding more twee Oirish antics than are healthy. The musical numbers are a step down too, particularly Faye's rendition of Carry Me Back to Old Virginny complete with `massa' lyrics, and the finale isn't as grand on screen as it is in your memory: the scenes of the crowds of refugees on the banks tend ... To me, this was the first of the Fox DVD classics to actually disappoint. 'Alexander's Ragtime Band' is anything but a neglected masterpiece, but rather a quite annoying musical about the leader of a swing band (Tyrone Power who, sadly, has nothing better to do in this movie than just stand there waving his hands with the stick and smile harmlessly) and his on-off affair with a singer (pretty Alice Faye), and their best friend (charming Don Ameche) is the man caught in the middle. World War I comes and goes and serves as no more than a photo opportunity for Power in military gear.
The challenge for director Henry King and for the script writers has been to stuff enough of a plot down in the tiny cracks in between the 28 songs (!!!), ... Read More:

I come back to this film again and again. There is nothing too original about it, but it is all well written, well observed and well acted.
Whoopi Goldberg plays Corrina, the housekeeper who makes a huge difference to a widower and his young daughter. Her comic talent is used to great effect. It's a rare romantic lead for Ray Liotta. He is better known as a gangster in films like 'Goodfellows', but this one proves he is a versatile actor. The daughter played by Tina Majorino, will move the meanest heart.
Set in the late 1950s, the contemporary pop and maybe older jazz songs used for the soundtrack set the mood and certainly enhance my enjoyment.
If you don't want to read the following review - Here's the short version -
Cocoon is great!
- for those of you that do, read on...
Cocoon is so well known that I think it's pointless to recount the plot, although what there is of it is faintly nonsensical (involving OAP's, aliens and Steve Guttenburg). What makes this film great however, is the wonderfully warm and enthusiastic interplay between the old cronies - Hume Cronyn, Wilford Brimley, Jessica Tandy and Don Ameche all turning in excellent performances.
Ron Howard's sci-fi tale is engaging, sweet and funny leaving you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Well Tom Selleck and comedy should be enough after his comedy double 'Three Men...'. This also has Don Ameche who steals the show playing a father with a health condition which starts to change Jon's life (Tom Selleck). When you see how perfect Jon's life is at the start to how the poor guy is at the end you wonder what has he got to smile about? To be trueful, I've watched this now over 9 nine times that's when I had it on VHS then on DVD. It is one of those comedies you can't get tired of watching. If other peoples misfortunes often make you laugh. THEN... your not only sick like me but this comedy is for you.

This movie is a work of art on many levels. We have seen the premise many times for example [Being There (1979)] and [The Man Who Knew Too Little (1997)]. Only those films relied on dumb luck or just dumb. Where as this film portrayed principle, friendship, and the person overcoming the situation without being so ignorant that he misses the point. Several times you want to close your eyes because you just know what is going to happen. And then it doesn't. One of my favorite scenes was the telling of the "Grasshopper and the ant" This is a microcosm of the movie. The basic story is about a shoe shiner taking the place of a killer in exchange for his dream of a boat after three years of incarceration. With three days to go before the trial, ... Read More:
