VHS : Middlemarch [1994]

Middlemarch [1994]

starring: Juliet Aubrey, Robert Hardy, Douglas Hodge, Peter Jeffrey, Trevyn McDowell
directed by: Anthony Page
April 05, 1994

I love peroid dramas and was running out of ones to watch. I didn't see this at the time because I was only 8 years old, but I stumbled across it recently and ordered it.

The plot follows the lifes of the residents of Middlemarch through weddings, deaths and scandals.
Well infused with humour, mainly provided by Mr Brooke and his hopes for election.

Rufus Sewell (Will Ladislaw) is amazing as the romantic lead, giving Mr Darcy a run for his money! Juliet Aubrey also plays the gentle, sweet Dorothea Brooke perfectly.
Two of my favourite characters were Fred and Mary.
The romance of the Doctor and his wife is bittersweet and again the actors are fantastic.

Highly recommended and a must ... Read More:

VHS : Dealers [1988]

Dealers [1988]

starring: Paul McGann, Rebecca De Mornay, Derrick O'Connor, John Castle, Paul Guilfoyle
directed by: Colin Bucksey
January 31, 2000

Working in the City myself I love Wall Street movies from the 80ies but didn't see this movie until recently. I had dismissed it because everybody was talking about WallStreet and I had never heard about Dealers but this movie really surprised on the upside.

Most movies about Wall Street are more IBD related but this is a great depiciton of a sell side trader. This movie is great for everybody who loves sell side and the trading floor and want to dream away to the 80is. The feeling in the movie is similar to other great 80ies movies. What would have made this movie the perfect 80ies hit would be replacing the lead actor with Tom Cruise and a couple of RayBan Wayfarers.

The Uninvited [1997]

starring: Douglas Hodge, Leslie Grantham, Lia Williams, Sylvestra Le Touzel, Caroline Lee-Johnson
directed by: Norman Stone
January 26, 2000

Unlike many reviewers here this is a brilliant mini series starring Douglas Hodge who is unwittingly dragged into an alien invasion. This plot isn't very original and does seem to borrow many of it's ideas from other shows. But it's well acted and the tension builds during the series with some nice twists. The premace of the story is that a village named 'Sweethope' in Norfolk is dragged into the sea. Hodge discovers that it was an engineered accident by aliens that feed off the pollution of the world. He meets up with a women whom he falls for that fears her husband has been replaced by an alien double. There is a connection with the village running all the way through and various accidents. All in all this is a must buy and great viewing , so don't be ... Read More:
