Having been to Edinburgh and seen the statue of Bobby, this film had some meaning for me. Film makers - including Disney - just don't make films like this anymore, probably because society has changed so much since this was filmed in 1960.
There is no violence, no swearing, the dog is real, and there is no animation or special effects - it's a sweet film that'll gently tug on your heart strings. It's innocence is so very touching and it's a classic example of the type of films my parents grew up watching and that I can now appreciate.
If you're a dog lover then it'll warm your heart, and if you want to show your children a sweet film that will show them a bit of history, won't frighten them, or teach them bad habits ... Read More:

The beauty of Film 4 on British television is that they show a lot of films that have not seen the light of day for a long time.
If I have not heard of the title I immediately look up on the internet to see the reviews. This one was a great sentimental children's film which was perfectly palatable for adults.
Great acting by the children the granddad and Jean Anderson as their grandma. The language was quaint as it was a mixture of old Scottish words in a supposedly Canadian setting.The granddad played a similar dour Scotsman in Tunes of Glory which is another great film

I am a collector of Clyde Puffer memorabilia and I found the Video most amusing and typical of these "Wee" boats. When I was an office boy (In 1941) for a glasgow shipping company I had the pleasure of sailing "Doon the water" to Port Glasgow where it was having a re-fit.. she was called the Jennie and is illustrated in Dan Mcdonald's book "The Clyde Puffer" page 33, she was wrecked in the island of Eigg in 1954--- Whilst on Holiday on Pembrokeshire last year I had a Serendipity experience when I found a model 14 inches in length with every detail shown of the vessel in a shop in St.Davids--- I have now purchased The Vital Spark 2 video and again look forward to seeing that. I can thoroughly recommend the Video to anyone who is a fan of this long gone ... Read More:
