as someone from Edinburgh who lived and went to plenty of the places mentioned in Trainspotting i have to say read the book the book instead which has the full content and message rather than just a comic short hand for what was happening at the time. It made fashionista fools think that taking hard drugs was a nice activity and gave them kudos and brought in too many people too Edinburgh looking for that lifestyle.
I have never managed it all the way through and think it is just an alternative advert for Britain for the naively trendy or people who misguided enough to think that the pathos and dark humor wasn't there to balance the story...great cast though and on the whole well acted but an overrated footnote to late 90's Britain

I have mixed feelings about the 1997 Harry Enfield series, to be honest. After three great series, this came as something of a disappointment. That's not to say it was bad. It just doesn't have the edge of previous material. It certainly has some great sketches involving past characters such as Kevin fancying his teacher, the Old Gits being generally nasty, the Slobs hitting the jackpot and the Randy Old Ladies still hunting young men. Some of the new characters such as the father trying to cope with having a homosexual son, Mr Dead, Il Postilio Pat and the Amsterdam policeman are equally hilarious. A lot of the other material, however, is just dross. Bringing back the Self-Righteous Brothers was a mistake. They weren't funny the first time round. ... Read More:

There's no doubt that 'Lock, Stock, and two Smoking Barrels' was a magnificent example of a new film maker at his creative best. With Snatch though it feels like Guy Ritchie found his comfort zone and set up permanent camp there.
The film contains some very clever dialogue, and many of the characters display a deep philosophical intelligence you don't expect from a thug - this brings humour and style, but it also seems as though the film tries a bit too hard to be 'Lock, Stock...'.
Jack-the-Lads, guns, snappy dressers, and uber-cool lines initially grace the screen nicely, but it eventually comes clear that these are being shoe-horned in to build a trendy flick. But when you can see through it - it just doesn't work.
The 1997 series was a disappointment after three fantastic series of Harry Enfield comedy, so I was glad to see things back on form with this Christmas special. True, there are still the unfunny German tourist and the self-righteous brothers (whose 'humour' seems to revolve around Enfield shouting "OI! NO!" in a fake-sounding Cockney accent). But there are more hits than misses on this video. Tim Nice-But-Dim has an alien encounter, for example. There are also some masterful combinations of comedy with dark undertones - Kevin tries to be tactful when his grandfather dies at Christmas, and we get a glimpse of Christmas from the viewpoint of a child whose parents hate each other. There's also a lot of extra sketches which weren't in the TV-broadcasted show. What more ... Read More:

I cannot for the life of me understand all the 5 star reviews. This film comprises a rediculously unbelieveable script populated with unbelieveable, 2-dimensional, cliched characters and executed with heavy, wooden performances. Is this what happens when artistic folk conspire to create "gritty" and "real" drama. The total running time of nearly two and a half hours makes this ham-fisted effort almost unwatchable

This was a complete flop, one of those cinema moments that should be buried in concrete away from prying eyes. What were the film makers thinking. Awful story, wooden actors. (You may guess i didn't enjoy it)
