On The Town [1949]

starring: Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Betty Garrett, Ann Miller, Jules Munshin
directed by: Gene Kelly, Stanley Donen

This is one of my favourite movies. Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly, where can you go wrong? Frank is adorable in this movie and Gene is, how shall I say, hot! It has excellent songs in it, my fav being 'Modern man'. It's no Singing in the rain, but definatley worth an oggle.

VHS : High Society [1956]

High Society [1956]

starring: Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Celeste Holm, John Lund
directed by: Charles Walters
March 27, 2000

Next time you have a rainy afternoon to spend with a box of chocs and a video, you can't do better than this. If you hanker for a time when everyone was elegant, witty and blessed with a honeyed voice, this is for you. The music is, of course, the main focus; but there's some brilliant acting going on here as well.

Smashing.

VHS : Frank, Liza & Sammy - The Ultimate Event ! [1989]

Frank, Liza & Sammy - The Ultimate Event ! [1989]

starring: Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, Sammy Davis Jr.
September 16, 1991

A fantastic get together of three legends, Frank, Liza & Sammy.
See Sammy do Michael Jackson as never before seen. The show is in three segments, then with all three on stage, they weave in and out of songs, taking the spotlight in turn yet never upstaging each other. The grand finale is ''New York, New York'',which leaves the audience breathless.

A true collectors item.

VHS : Doris Day - Young At Heart / The Thrill Of It All / Lover Come Back [1954]

Doris Day - Young At Heart / The Thrill Of It All / Lover Come Back [1954]

starring: Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Tony Randall, Frank Sinatra, James Garner
directed by: Delbert Mann, Gordon Douglas, Norman Jewison
October 01, 2001

I loved the three videos in this box set from start to finish. "Young at Heart" introduced me to the wonders of Sinatra, who sings "One for my Baby, Young at Heart, and, my fav, One of those things," amongst other fab songs. Sinatra and Day really shine in this heart-warming musical.
"The Thrill of It All" is about a doctor (James Garner) who becomes jealous of his wife's (Doris Day) new found celebrity from a soap advertisement. It is completely hilarious! I laughed at every moment of this fantastic film!
"Lover Come Back" is also a great comedy - this time Doris was partnered with Rock Hudson. The two make great viewing. The chemistry between them, coupled with the script results in a film people will watch time and time again!

High Society / Singin' In The Rain [1956]

starring: Bing Crosby, Debbie Reynolds, Jean Hagen, Millard Mitchell, Grace Kelly
directed by: Charles Walters, Stanley Donen, Gene Kelly
September 09, 2002

Although Sinatra's acting career on a whole was seen as quite weak, High Society is perhaps on of the most highly under-rated musicals ever. But its mix of witty scripts, humours happings and all time classic songs........its up there with the best. And with cast including - Bing Crosby as C.K. Dexter-Haven, Frank Sinatra woundefully playing a noisy reporter with his boyish charms, Grace Kelly as Tracy Samantha Lord (Bings ex-wife) in her last screen performance, but non the less a brillant performance and finaly Armstong finishing of this master piece with superb musical class. I give this film FIVE STARS, for the all round fun of the film, pure musical enjoyment and family entertainment. Songs Included - "What a swell party", True Love", "Now you has ... Read More:

VHS : Anchors Aweigh [1945]

Anchors Aweigh [1945]

starring: Frank Sinatra, Kathryn Grayson, Gene Kelly, José Iturbi, Dean Stockwell
directed by: George Sidney
March 27, 2000

With this being the film that launched Frank Sinatra to major things for MGM, this proves to be a great classic musical that hits all the right spots. Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra play two sailors on shore leave and who both fall for the same woman. Cue some great song and dance numbers by the pair, together and apart. Kathryn Grayson is also excellent as the female lead with also some great songs to sing. Also, watch out for the much celebrated sequence with Gene Kelly partnering Jerry the mouse (from Tom & Jerry). All in all, an excellent film.

VHS : Guys And Dolls [1955]

Guys And Dolls [1955]

starring: Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, Vivian Blaine, Robert Keith
directed by: Joseph L. Mankiewicz
August 06, 2001

Of the 4 leads in this musical, only Vivienne Blaine belongs in a musical, being a major vaudeville & Broadway singer & hoofer before this was made.

Despite this, it's a thoroughly enjoyable experience, good colour and sound and an outstanding supporting turn by Stubby Kaye. Jean Simmons retains her English innocence well as a Salvation Army lass and even assists in helping you forget that Damon Runyon's picaresque language translates hopelessly to screen.

But the best bits are Brando & Sinatra. Brando surprisingly fits well into Sky Masterton and tackles things with enthusiasm. There's also a permanent smirk on his face, because he knows that Frankie wanted HIS part all along, and doesn't it show! Frankie's face ... Read More:
