What a wonderful series this was enjoyed and remembered very well by all family members.
We wanted to own a copy on DVD.
We were very surprised indeed when we found that it has not yet to be placed on to the magic of DVD.
Why is this so?
Shame on you BBC please hurry along or the Puffer Para Handy will sink without trace .
Looking forward to a DVD release date in the very near future.

Great show and worth buying series 1, however do NOT buy it for £54 as the DVD is being released in a couple of days for £12. All Scots will know and love this show, and the English...well they don't matter ;)

This a very charming movie set in the turn of 20th the Century.
I have seen both versions and in my view they are both very fine movies that the whole family can watch.
I have to agree with one of the reviews, the brief commentary at the beginning and the end of the movie
is in my view detrimental to the production. I really dont understand why the writers did that.
Other then then the commentary the movie is very fine.
The acting is wonderful, the settings and costumes are beautiful.
This movie is worth while adding to your DVD library.
Especially if you are looking for family movies

It's Christmas Eve and Glasgow's shambolic street philosopher can't think of any reason to be jolly especially when there is no forthcoming to help him join in the celebrations
This Video Also Features Guest Appearances By
Rikki Fulton . Andy Gray. Gerard Kelly. Viv Lumsden . Iain Cuthbertson. Alex Norton. Gerry Sadowitz . Jonathan Watson. Brian Petiffer. Peter Capaldi. Elaine Collins. Tony Roper.
I think this video shows too much about the parts of his life other than his adventures, and this is what put me off it. His adventures parts of it are very realistic though, and is quite good.

I was first introduced to Rab as a child watching him with my father as time wore on I decided to find out the reason my father (whom I share the same sense of humour with) loved the scotch rouge. I bought the Best of and watched it while half asleep in bed and found it hilarious. The first episode 'wean' shows us life as the Cotter's try for a baby with Rab as the surrogate father. By far my favourite episode is 'cell' which in my eyes is comedy genius. Another positive about the vid is the lovable rouge Jamsie Cotter who is naturally funny and Tony Roper does a fine job of portraying the character. Thier arnt to many flaws with the video though the obvious 'if your not scotch you cant understand it' one and being made in 1992 some may see the jokes ... Read More:

Superb cinematography (filmed on location in the shires of Ross and Inverness) which captures the raw, harsh working conditions of farm labourers in Scotland during WWII. The film details the local reaction to a group of Italian P.O.W.'s sent to work amongst them as part of a rehabilitation programme.
Michael Radford's direction is excellent as he strives for total realism, and Phyllis Logan is truly wonderful as the young married woman seeking more from life than a cold and frustrating marriage. In fact, all of the performances are uniformly excellent.
The only negative aspect to me was the editing of the film which could have been better, tending to jump all over the place and give no real sense of time or continuity.
